How do you do it how you do?

Click on "Manage Attachments" when you make a new post. A secodary screen comes up, and you can then upload a file. There are size restrictions, so you may have to resize the pic. Once select and hit upload, the picture will be attached as part of the post in a separate link.

I do it this way for several reasons. If someone quotes you, the picture doesn't come with the quote. Also, only logged in members can see these links. Of course, if someone, like, say, Lance, decided to embed that photo for you himself, then there's not much you can do to get rid of it later. But at least it does prevent multiple quoting, and having to open a thread to see a wall 'o your boobs!

You're still good if you remove the pic, unless someone downloads it and re-uploads it.

Linking or using img tags to a pic you deleted will result in dead links (though people who have already seen it may continue to see it for a bit afterward).
