well, there's parrotty bird, that goes without saying, but what feathered types do you like?

i've a special fondness for wrens and blackbirds, and barn owls

My only dislike is the blue jay. We have one and I swear he wants to take me out. He is evil.

Oh and seagulls. They poop everywhere.

don't you have one or two you are a little more fond of than others? i'm especially looking forward to meeting the hummingbirds that visit H each year

my fondness for wrens stems from them being on our farthing coins when i was little, and a blackbird's song at dusk is simply heavenly.

Mockingbird. There used to mockingbird who lived in the trees behind my house. After dark, he could sing for 10 minutes straight without repeating himself.

Ah yes, hummingbirds. I have two feeders going at the moment but I have not spotted any as of yet.
Doves. I love their cooing.

that's some repertoire  was it a good singer though? imagine if it was like a bad karaoke singer and just sang and sang and sang....

The swallow.
*smiles*

housemartins are cute, too

We got these itty bitty things called Indigo Blue. Thought they were Bluebirds at first, but the coloring is different.

If you listen carefully, you can tell the difference between the mature birds and juveniles. Every season, their songs grow in length and complexity.

They sing to claim territory and they're serious about it. When a mockingbird has eggs or chicks in the nest, they will challenge a crow in mid air. If the crow doesn't turn around, they attack until the crow is trailing feathers. Most crows are twice the size of a mockingbird, but it gives them no advantage.

a bunting, i think it said. and yeah, that's the kind of shape i like - wrens, robins... similar rounded shapes

Yeah.

I got a frickin' rainbow out there. Those, Bluebirds, BluJays, Cardinals, Red Headed Woodpeckers, Red Bellied Woodpeckers, House Wrens (brown with scarlet tinged heads), Red Finches, Yellow Finches, Hummingbirds, Mockingbirds, Red Winged Blackbirds, Waxwings, all shades of browns, tans and greys, Geese, ducks, Blue Herrons. I think I saw something purple the other day, but didn't get a close look. About the only thing I haven't seen is anything green.
