A good deal of the mental health community agree with the doctors.

And as a general observation, people that pretend to be something they aren't in life, outside the performing arts, generally come to no good end. (Hmmm, that might even be said about those IN the performing arts.) The same holds true in spades for those that actually believe that they're something they aren't. People that based their lives on fantasies used to be remanded for treatment, not coddled to by edict of a wannabe Dictator.

My junior high English Grammar teacher was a straight acting gay man.

My Latin teacher was a slutty spinster who beat sharon stone to the upskirt pussy shot every morning sitting on the front of her desk and showing you her tits while reviewing your work with her hand gripping your upper thigh.

Bonus; she knew he was gay and would rub up against him in front of us during class changes so we could see his distate for her gender assignment.

Both were considered top teachers by the principal, a totally flaming mincing ultra-bitchy fag who was married with three truly bizarre teens and a very unhappy looking silent wife.

Perversion everywhere, then and now.

Looking back on it, how could I ever think there there was more to come, there was a reason for the heavy promotion. And here we are now, our federal government attempting to shape the mind of an entire nation via the minds of grade school children. This type of subversion used to be much slower, and in the universities. This is unprecedented. And if you disagree with me, close your eyes and imagine a president you don't like doing this. Imagine a hard core Christian telling schools something they should do in the name of his personal beliefs.

the irony of reports

when a person's forced to live in the body that is the wrong gender, it causes untold physical and mental stress

and older reports explaining the reasons why universities stopped offering the assignment ops is hardly surprising given the experimental/poor quality of the operations and the stigma attached to anyone undergoing them and trying to live lives as their real selves post op.
times and science have moved on, folks!

I don't know the private medicine process, but the people I know who have undergone gender assignment surgery (or are awaiting it) found exhaustive psych tests a mandatory part of the process before an individual is even put on the waiting list for the initial hormone treatments - a waiting list that is over a year before the first appointment to even discuss the matter. the quality of physical intervention in the form of operations is amazing now and improving all the time as surgeons learn and develop new procedures.

anyone undergoing the surgery for the express purpose of escaping something else that's going on in their heads will never find fulfilment post op - but those whose sole aim it is to live in the body that matches the man or woman they are inside (in their heads, hearts, genetics in many cases) then the transition is the most fulfilling thing they have ever experienced. it doesn't make ANY other problems in their lives disappear, but they don't go into the surgery blind and expecting this unless unscrupulous money-hungry companies in the private sector push this onto desperate people, just like their brands of cosmetic surgery. gender assignment is not skin deep, it addresses the very core of whom an individual is.

and homosexuality was considered a psychiatric problem that could be cured once we moved past the 'devil's influence' thing
and CFS wasn't recognised as a physical ailment till science understood it better
and the autism spectrum is only now beginning to achieve the understanding and recognition it deserves from the medical profession
