We've been to truck stops, rest areas, many events with porta-potties, and vacation places filled with strangers.

The toilet is an enclosed space with a cubicle that is narow and can be locked from inside, offering fewer means of escape.
And my sister just told me about a recent case where a teacher was raped and killed by a student in a toilet, during hours. And I heard of other cases too, back home as well as in other countries.

Even if the incidence of such cases isn't that high, why risk ruining the lives of even a minority of women or girls? I'd rather be seen as a bigot or hurt some people's feelings, as opposed to risking the above.

There's a certain demographic (wingnuts) that choose to live in fear. I wouldn't mind it, except they to everything in their (thankfully limited) power to force other people to live in fear as they do.

"Better safe than sorry" is the wingnut core tenet, and by "safety" they mean conforming to the norm. Non-white, non-English speaking, non-male, non-elderly people are seen as "threats".

So far they've failed to demonize Jews, Negros and now gays. Transgenders represent the "final frontier"...they've simply run out of demographics to hate without fear of meaningful criticism.
