Give credit where credit is due, Cruz had the best organization overall....that's how he got as far as he did. Compare Cruz field troops to Jeb!'s, Rubio's, Jindal's....or any other candidate in the "Deepest Republican Bench EVAR", he comes out ahead.

The problem was, Trump blew away all the existing rules. He has a shit organization, and now must rely upon the RNC to help him get the white vote out and prevent the non-whites from voting.

I don't think he beat out the others, I think they lost their base to Trump, and he lost part of his to Trump as well. The RNC does not need to put their most fundamentalist people up for president, and they generally don't, but the small government folks, the anti-immigration crowd, and the knee-jerk nationalist crowd got caught up in the Trump media blitz. Even a good portion of the religious right, which is astounding, as Trump has never, one day in his life, been anything but a gambling house supporting, playboy bunny desiring hedonist.

This is the problem with twenty years of herding the voting base behind so-called social causes that they had no intention of doing anything about. They got herded right out from under their noses.
