My first story got lukewarm ratings with very little feedback. I got back on my horse and wrote another story but lost interest in it. I'm almost finished with my current story and I think its better than the first, but I'm the only person to edit/proofread the dang thing. I'm standing on the deck of the ship ready to jump. Are those shark fins in the water?
A few questions before I find out my fate:

1) How does an author copyright his/her story?

2) How many tags should there be?

3) What would be the tag for crotch sniffing? If there isn't one for this fetish, I nominate "snorking" as a good one.

1. By law, it's automatically copyrighted when you've written it. That means something in the UK. Not so much in the United States as you couldn't file suit about it in court without having taken out a formal copyright through the U.S. Copyright Office. Last I knew these cost $35 (my publisher files for me and covers the cost). But it's the same $35 for a whole collection of stories, so mine are bunched together in large collections and put under one formal copyright.

2. You have ten tags you can submit and it's best to try to use all ten as that's how some readers search for their reads.

3. It's best to use standard ones certainly and the category hubs have a area that lists the most used ones for that category. But it's up to you to decide.

In general, if you write about unusual fetishes, ratings will not be high. Crotch sniffing? For erotic pleasure? Maybe there's a larger community for that than I know about, but in general if you are writing for a small niche market, stop worrying about ratings and comments. You'll get a few enthusiasts who love it, lots who click out without finishing, commenting or rating, and a few who will pummel you with low scores. It is what it is. Ratings here are quite random and the fringier you get the more random they appear.

It might be safer for you if you looked at it as dropping a story into the drink, rather than dropping yourself there.

You don't have to drop your story into the water without testing it first. You could always seek a beta reader or editor through the Editor's Hangout. Getting it read before you drop it can't hurt and in my experience the process can only improve your story.

Forgive my confusion

So I just post that I'm looking for an editor and one will show up?

Not automatically. Think of your post as an application for an editor. Give the category the story will be in and the word count. Also make sure that you have PM enabled and can receive messages from everyone.
