Everyone, well most everyone, on the board knows I love England. If I ever have the funds, well, that is where I am going. I am going to take Jennifer with me, she's never been there.

I want to see London, of course, but I would like to see the countryside too. I've been looking at The Cotswolds on Facebook and it is wonderful.

I honestly don't know much about what UK has to offer. I have only been in London so I am sure it has tons of wonderful sights to see.

Can any Brits help me learn more about what their country has to offer?

Don't limit yourself to England. Scotland and Wales are beautiful, too.

Yorkshire - the best destination in Europe. Not only does Yorkshire have many and varied superb fly fishing waters but it is also an excellent place to visit for a short break or longer holiday with a partner, family or friends. In October 2013 the ‘Lonely Planet Guide’ voted Yorkshire the third best region IN THE WORLD to visit (after regions of India and Australia). It said ‘It’s only a matter of time before this rough-around-the-edges gentleman of the north gets the traveller attention it deserves. Yorkshire’s local athletes helped the county clock up more medals in the 2012 London Olympics than entire countries such as South Africa, Spain and even the 2016 hosts, Brazil. As if basking in Yorkshire’s glory, last year a poll revealed the North Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate was the happiest place in Britain. Bradford has become the world’s first Unesco City of Film, a new state-of-the-art gallery in Wakefield is giving London a run for its money, and Yorkshire now has more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other county outside London. In 2014, this welcoming region of rugged moorlands, heritage homes and cosy pubs will be able to hold its head even higher when the Tour de France begins its grand départ from Leeds.’ The route of the first two days on July 5th and 6th passes over many of our favourite Yorkshire fly fishing rivers and through the fly fishing base towns of Skipton and Ilkley – see letour.yorkshire.com.

Also in September Yorkshire was voted Europe’s Leading Destination 2013 at the World Travel Awards, beating competition from cities including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris, Venice, Istanbul and Edinburgh.

The Yorkshire Dales are in easy reach of Manchester, Leeds and Bradford and a direct rail link from London to Skipton and a 3 hour one stop (in Leeds) trip from London to Ilkley, makes it very easy to visit even from the south of England.

I'm so blessed to be where I am now…

Australia has some of the most urban or exotic places in the world.
Plus Fiji and Bali (for the non-westernized exotic feel) and NZ (for the South Island colder mountains feel) are so close and cheap to travel to.. …

Dream vacation: Sail from California to Peru, train to Lima and then Cuzco, be carried on llama-back to Machu Picchu whilst sipping Cuba Librés and toking Ukiah Gold. It's a start.

We've been on extended vacation (unemployed) for years. We're about to take off on a one-month trip (gotta be back for depositions), driving our new ultra-efficient housecar slowly back-and-forth through the Coast Ranges from Mendocino to San Diego and then back north threading the Sierra Nevadas. After the proceedings, we're thinking of taking ferries north to Alaska and driving back through glacier-infested regions.

Life is a trip. Take it.

The beauty of living in a place like Australia is that you don't have to plan ahead your trips either.

You can just say: right now I'm in the mood for taking this friday off and spending my weekend in the Gold Coast, or NZ, or Bali and so on
- and the likelihood is that you'll find cheap tickets to one of these destinations.

1.We've often done that. Where ever we were living. It's an approach to life rather than just pure location thing, though certain locations make it easier. It's the in

2. and find longer travel by car/ train tiring. I hate with a passion cruising...it's the anti holiday for me, everything I hate, but I love just hoping on a plane and being somewhere

3.Y aspect of on ing pets that is limiting, in the brief time we had without pets, we would travel on a whim the same day. One of our early dates saw us meeting at an airport.
.

1.I wasn't like that before, but I picked these habits from kiwis and australians. ((until I joined Lit., of course, which made me a semi-recluse & a net addict)).
Australians and NZers just Loove travelling, and they're very spontaneous in that.
I heard that many europeans and especially brits. are into that style nowadays: spend their weekend shopping in Paris, the other one climbing the Alps, so to speak. How cool is that!

2.Me too. I love flying too - starting from the airport (seeing all those different people -of different age, social or ethnic groups- and in a good mood too) to landing (nothing beats closing in on views or seeing night city lights from an airplane).
People here are into cruise hollidays as well - but I never understood the appeal. What are they getting out of that?

3.I usually made an extra effort with the kennel owner, so that they wouldn't be too phased if I called them out of hours and dropped off my dogs in the next few hours. Plus I don't typically travel during national hollidays - which means cheap flights and kennels that aren't full to the brim.

I cannot fly for health reasons, right now. and find longer travel by car/ train tiring.
Bummer. Hope it's just a temporary state as opposed to a more chronic condition.:rose:

Well, here in the Bootheel, we always have either Branson, the Plaza or Nashville...

;)

You have no idea how good we have it.

What and where the hell is Xel-Ha?
Not surprised by the wacky choice, tho.;)

It is a beautiful place where exotic fish thrive in a small area where a freshwater river meets saltwater. We were introduced to it when we attended am international tournament in Cancun and decided to get out to some of the local sites like the historic ruins. Same thing that we did when we went to China to adopt Princess, we set aside time to see Beijing and other places like the Great Wall.
