Is this a special time of the year or what?

I don't monitor my story ratings, views or any of the associated stuff, so it's your duty to pardon my ignorance, if any.

There's been a barrage of feedback on my story. I mean, these people took the pain to send me a wonderfully crafted feedback on my story that blew my ego out of the room (meh, jus' kidding). I've been reading a lot of depressing stuff, so that has been a ray of sunshine in my world these days.

I don't know about increment/decrement in votes and views, so I'd like to ask if any of you have experienced the same thing. Is it a seasonal thing, like people getting a lot of time in April/May to jerk off, or some hedonistic festival going on that I've never heard before?

I thought about PMing RR, and I hope he has a relevant statistics tucked up his sleeve, but I also want to know if any other authors are experiencing the same shit.

(Oh, and I forgot to mention that I shamelessly plugged my story on another place, but I doubt those people are members of this place too)

All help appreciated.

Okay, I'll send you a feedback saying that you suck.

Maybe that will balance the scales. :p

This question came up over the weekend, in SamScribble's thread here.

You aren't the only one seeing an uptick in activity. I track the views on my small number of stories and I haven't seen much change -- no change at all that seems difficult to explain. Whatever is happening doesn't seem to be happening to everyone.

I've submitted three stories in my time here. Once they're off the "New Stories" list, they're as good as dead. I haven't got anything useful beyond "I cum three times. More!!!" comments. It alright by me, I guess, because I don't ask for any feedback either. Once I've written and submitted something, I'm done with it.

Your "story", on the other hand, has a big, nice W, comes with more than a decent score and is still on top of the Hall of Fame. That's more than enough incentive for anyone looking to wiggle their schlongs.

I have been getting several new favorites a week on some of my older stories, and two or three new comments a month.

That is unusual when I haven't got a new story, and when there isn't a contest running.

But it's not exceptional, just a slight increase in interest.

It's just possible that the Readers' Choice awards really is having an effect. I've noticed a steady trickle on my one popular story and a vote here and there on some of the others, more than earlier in the year. Still no comparison to when a story first posts and the week or two afterwards, or the duration of a contest.

Most of mine are steadily increasing reader numbers these last few weeks, nothing huge, but noticeable. I've got two nominations in Reader's Choice (same story), so it must be a result of that. The activity is even across my portfolio, so I'm guessing people are checking out the one story, and then coming back and reading more.

Good point. Or the faculty, groaning about having to make up and grade finals...

Absolutely. In the Yale alumni magazine not so long ago, there was an article in which professors were invited to confess what they read that was, you know, not quite respectable. I read the article eagerly, hoping at least one of them would confess to getting off on Lit stories by Serafina1210, but no one admitted to anything more low down than the occasional mystery novel.

I comforted myself with the thought that, though no professor would ever admit to jacking or jilling off to online smut, they do it just the same.

OK, then, here's your first confession about a professor getting off on Lit stories, though not only yours specifically. LOL

Ah, yes, Reader's Choice Awards. I haven't been keeping tab on that one. Surprised the fuck out of me when I saw the nominations. I'm glad some people even found the time to read a story that long and vote on it. I've no idea if that promotes stories, but it could be a factor.

Glad to see I'm not the only one seeing things. It's definitely a pleasant change, though. I like it.

May Day is a hedonistic festival and has been for millennia. Easter was, but not so much now. Some Irish people may deny it, but St. Patrick's Day is quite hedonistic.

Since doing my quarterly stats end the end of March, I've noticed a definite unusual increase in views on a number of stories and a really nice jump in author and story favs.

Whatever is driving the recent uptick, it's more than welcome to continue. :)

.

I posted on this subject a week or so back. And, guess what ... I'm still getting more votes and favourites than ever before. Of course, a fair sprinkling of the votes are one-bombs. But that's Lit - especially if you are a Brit. 'Can't you limey bastards learn to write English?' :)

Could it be all the bad weather screwing up spring? All that spring rutting season and nowhere to go?

Just a thought. Got to blame it one someone or something. :D

The only unusual activity I've noticed of late (other than posting having generally slipped a day) has been uneven commenting/favoriting. Some days there's no activity on my stories (e.g., this Monday) and other days a lot (e.g., this Tuesday and Wednesday). I do have a lot of commenting/favoriting activity on old stories though, and always have.
