Hello!

I am going to put a microwave above my stove. I am shopping for the new one and finding a few that combine the convection oven with the microwave oven.

If you are a convection oven owner/user, please tell me if this is a good choice or if I should skip this option.

Thanks!

What the hell? None of you have a convection oven? None of you can offer Pete some free advice?

Fuckers.

I had one.

It was underwhelming.

Pass . . . or do what you like.

I won't have another on purpose.

We use a microwave and the regular electric oven.

Have never tried to convectionize.

My mom has one.

She doesn't like it. It takes a really long time to cook anything.

I have a toaster oven with convection option and I never use convection. Hope this helps.

Our current kitchen contains 1) a regular gas oven, 2) an old counter-top microwave, 3) a counter-top toaster-oven with convection option, and 4) an over-the range microwave + convection oven. We don't use #1 except for storage because it sucks expensive propane. We use the convection ovens A LOT because they're the most cost-effective way to bake and roast stuff.

What makes sense for you depends on how much you're cooking, your local gas vs electric costs, and your available space. Replacing an over-the-range microwave? Go convection. Remember me when you roast your first pizza.

I have the combination oven you reference. I like it. I use it to warm up food that gets soggy when warmed up in a microwave, but gets a crusty burn layer when warmed up in the over.

1) Pizza (microwaving left over pizza makes the crust soggy)
2) Grilled chicken (a staple at our house).
3) Anything wrapped in a tortilla

At holiday time it really rocks for making Green Bean Cassarole while the oven is full of turkey, etc.

I don't like the toaster oven on the counter trend, I think it looks cluttered and pose a burn hazard when I'm drunk.

We have one. It only gets used when we need more oven space like when we are cooking for holidays/parties, and then only very rarely. It can also be used as a warming oven as long as you remember not to use the microwave (which will jack every thing up).

If you already have a traditional oven, I'd skip it unless the option was very inexpensive.

There. That's leadership.

Good luck!

I have noticed the overall quality of the oven increase with the convection option. More metal. Better hinges and latch.

I am also surprised by the lack of people that use the damn thing. Another ignored kitchen gadget?

Good to know.

You people are very kind considering you are a bunch of wannabees.

Normal ovens and microwaves work just fine. Ditch the convection option.

It depends on what you're going to cook in it. I had one and I didn't like it. To me, it was useless unless you're cooking Hot Pockets all the time.

I use it more than my oven.

Normal ovens create too much heat in the house during the hot summers, especially if you just need to cook/heat something small. Why heat a large oven just to reheat grilled chicken?
