RIP Alan Rickman

Rip!

This week has been utterly brutal.

So sad to see another great lost. Thankfully we'll always have his movies!

F* cancer.

I didn't cry when Bowie died, though I was incredibly sad and immediately went to go watch Labyrinth.

I very rarely cry over celebrities' deaths. People come and go.

But for some reason, Alan Rickman was just too much. I broke down over it. I had no idea how old he was, or even that he was suffering from cancer. I always looked up to him as a source of never-ending Brit wit - he's definitely one of those actors that can deadpan lines and make the entire scene hysterical, which is why Dogma is one of my favorite films.

Ugh. I need to go watch RH Prince of Thieves again, excuse me.

Oh, noooooooo!

Great great actor!

One of his less well known movies that I loved him in was Bottle Shock... terrific. And in Smiley's People, so long ago...

RIP...:rose::rose::rose:

I'll always see him as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Costner's Robin Hood, he was totally over the top and hilarious

"And Christmas is cancelled!":D

This year is off to a sad start as far as icons passing away.

You mean this one?

I rather liked this one.

The look on the Sheriff's face [at 1.0] is a bloody masterpiece.

Sympathy to his family.

Alan Rickman had such appealing charm. He did bring something special to Galaxy Quest, although I loved him best in Sense and Sensibility - he made Colonel Brandon so romantic.

He is the best Colonel Brandon ever!

Everyone is good in Galaxy quest, one of my favorite 'feel good' movies, but Alan Rickman was the best actor in it, "By Grabthar's hammer, ...".

Alan Rickman

Your movies and the memory of you will live forever.

Anyone see a film called "Blow Dry," with Rickman playing a hair stylist? British film, both sad and fun -- he worked near his ex-wife, who had left him for another woman, and they shared custody of their son -- and so neat to see him play a part that was not Hans Gruber or the Sheriff. Not sure how old the film is but I'm pretty sure it pre-dates the HP movies.

Another favorite: Alexander Dane (sp?) in "Galaxy Quest." He was such a great villain but I think those made his good-guy roles that much more fun, and more of a contrast.

Sigh...

I'm going to miss him.

He was the perfect choice for the angel in "Dogma." Snarky, yet compassionate. Nobody else could have done that role.

I would have loved to see him on stage as Valmont in Les Liaisons Dangereuses, but even on the silver screen he shone.

I was lucky enough to see him in that run. We could hear the poll tax riots kicking off outside the theatre but were still mesmerised.

See Youtube. [try here]

I wish you good luck with all the cr@p that's almost fraudulent.

It's definitely a shame to see him go. He had a very beautiful and distinctive voice, and was talented for sure. I have always liked him, as well as Jeremy Irons.

My Alan Rickman highlights are DOGMA,DIE HARD and LOVE, ACTUALLY. He was an actor that could deliver deadpan humor as well as heartfelt love.

I would add Galaxy Quest to that list. I can't hear "By Grapthar's Hammer" without giggling.

I had no idea who Alan Rickman was. One of those actors whose name nobody remembers, but everyone recognizes, I guess. I'd seen him before in every clip posted. Standout characters.

He played what I believe was one of the best fictional characters in contemporary literature, Professor Snape. I remember before the last book came out, I saw a poster or something in a book store asking the question if Snape was good or evil. Rowling wrote him to perfection in my opinion because she had everyone guessing.
