Justice League: The New Wave (OOC - Interest Check)

sorry for the delayed response. Monday is my only day off.

Options:
1) Speedball can deliver a hell of a heavy hit.

2) Speedball delivers lesser hit to distract Crazy superman enough that Wondergirl can unlease her own pain/frustration on him.

3) Speedball delivers lesser hits to distract Crazy superman enough that Wondergirl/Aquaman can unlease there own pain/frustration on him.

4) Aquaman gets The Rider to help them against crazy superman and the Rider deals with the shit storm.

No worries about the delay.

We reply when we can, no-one's on a time clock here.

I suggest a combination of 2 and 4.

Silver Bullet and Wondergirl can put Val-Zod on the ropes.

Then Aquaman, The Rider, and maybe Nightwing can put him down.

Like, The Rider can Penance Stare him, really rattle his cage.

And Aquaman can hit him full force with his magical electric tattoos, Kryptonians aren't as vulnerable to magic as they are to Kryptonite but that shaken without day-level sunlight, it might be enough to put him down.

Then... then... Vic... would Nightwing have some kind of restraint system with him in The Bat that would work on a Kryptonian? Maybe low-grade Kryptonite or red-solar emitters?

No; I wasn't planning on him running around the world, going so fast he's on the brink of entering Speedster Heaven. He would have just ran over and hit him at mach speeds lol.

But seriously, it doesn't have to happen. If Kara wants to finish Val, she can. As I said, my goal is to end this story arc. I don't have to do anything to help it end. I just can't wait for the dead horse to finally actually die.

Yeah.

We'll probably never know what Legend had in mind for this.

Maybe he had more of an Eigen Plot in mind than what Varshanka and I have makeshifted, something that would have tied everyone in better. I'm sorry our solution hasn't accomplished that.

But I do promise we're going to wrap this up as lickety as we can split.

But I think we can still do that in a way that sets us up to unify later.

Hiro would be psyched to be a part of their little Justice League. When its settled, I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to run around and get everyone's number so they can all "hang out" some time. :D He'll be more than happy to be a part of the "cool" and "super" crowd.

Again, I don't know what Legend's plan was in the long or the short term.

But here's my proposal based on what we have available.

Lex Luthor is running for President.

The Justice League has gone missing in an election year.

How baller would he look to We the People if he created a New Justice League of America to save The USA in a time of crisis?

Aside from a handful of people in the superhero community, not many people know how corrupt and villainous Lex Luthor truly is. And even the superheroes can't prove it. Especially not with Clark gone.

So after we stop Val-Zod, we timeskip maybe a week. And employees of Lex' approach the various superheroes that came together to save Metropolis, proposing that they form a new Justice League. Even Val-Zod, perhaps restrained in a specialized containment unit in Metropolis' own Stryker's Island(?), could possibly be approached to make up for the damage he caused The City of Tomorrow and her citizens.

Lex'll even invite Aquaman, because of Aquaman's cred with The Teen Titans as Aqualad. And Aquaman, even though he knows that Lex is bad news, will go along with it-- hoping that a) Lex will give Kaldur enough rope to hang him by, and/or b) that Kaldur will be able to at least mitigate and defend The Leaguers against the clear and president danger of Alexander Joseph Luthor. Hell, that could even be part of Lex' pitch to Kaldur.

And, since Lex is the one providing the resources for the new team, that'll give him an opening to insist that his own protege superheroine, Kelley Bishop, is also included in the roster. If that's okay with MilkManDan.

Lex will provide us with opportunities to thwart bad guys. Though of course they will advance his own agenda in the process. We may be able to expose him for what he is, we may not. And we'll slowly but surely lurch towards this metaplot with the local branch of The Multiverse.

What do you guys think? Any good? Total shite? Questions, comments, accusations?

So here's a thing.

While I'm brainstorming.

And this may be where you go, "whoa, Chastity, dial it back, who's this crazy lady co-running our thread?"

In case some of you aren't familiar with Lunaramblings' "Star City" threads, the metaplot in there is that Darkseid (known as "The Master" for secrecy) is trying to conquer that region of The Multiverse using temporal Boom Tubes and the power of The Exchange-- the source of all H-Dials.

Legend also had ideas about a version of Darkseid conquering The Multiverse, clashing with The Anti-Monitor, and while I know next to nothing about the full depth and breadth of his plan, I'm sure it would have been vastly different.

But I joked (well, half-joked) with Legend about his Multiversal war being the same war as Lunar's. That it's the same Darkseid marching parallel to parallel...

...he never replied to that message, probably he wasn't sure that I was (half-)joking and decided to not let me get my hopes up.

But given that I'm strongly considering bringing in an H-Dialer as another New Justice Leaguer, I can't help but wonder what it would be like.

I don't suppose you guys would be interested in playing around with that idea? If not, I won't be heartbroken. I don't foresee that it would have an immediate effect on our thread, but it might color things "behind the scenes," so to speak.

Thoughts?

So if I dial - TIMELORD - ... hmm...

Spoilers...

theories..

giggling fits of madness.

timey-wimey outerspace aliens from inner time.

all of the idea's sound viable.

Actually, there might be a Time Lord involved.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Or is it behind?

...thank you, Var.

There is no thread without the thread of time

and if any such person makes an appearance, I'm sure it will be timely. and he'll be wearing sneakers..

HC, whenever is opportune for you, go ahead and deliver one of those Mach-Daddy Punches to knock Val-Zod for a loop.

Then Var can have Karan press the advantage, and then Ghost Rider, Kaldur, and Nightwing can facilitate the takedown.

Then we'll talk timeskips.

Anytime if anyone's feeling ungroovy, please let us know.

Bringing in a Ringer.

"Call me. Beep me. If you wanna reach me."

Alter Ego - Ruby Reed

Alias - H-E-R-O Hotline (usually just "Hotline")

Age - 30

Appearance - Ruby Reed is a slender female human being, 5'7" and in finely-honed athletic shape. She's characterized by her heart-shaped face, numerous tattoos, and penchant for genderbending fashion. The "crop circles" in her haircut (above) are meant to reference the Interlac lettering on her phone.

Personality - Ruby has grown from a timid but well-intentioned girl genius to a cocky, wise-assed adult. She identifies as genderfluid, and is just as comfortable presenting as male as she is female, though "she/her" are acceptable pronouns for her, and she identifies as lesbian rather than as a trans-het male.

Roguish and flirtatious though her wit may be, she retains the strong sense of law and order and standing up for the oppressed as she did when she was a little girl.

Gear (optional) - The H-Dial.

Ruby is not superhuman in her own right, but she possesses a device of unknown origin known as a Hero Dial or "H-Dial" for short. While the H-Dial initially vaguely resembled the rotary dial of an old-school telephone engraved with Interlac alphanumerics, it has since mysteriously upgraded itself into a futuristic, seemingly-indestructible cellphone handset (pictured above).

When Ruby dials the letters H-E-R-O on the handset, she gains the powers and identity of a seemingly random superheroic entity from anywhere in Hypertime/The Omniverse. The length of time she spends as each heroic "ectype" varies considerably, but never seems to be more than 24 hours. If she ever needs to return to herself quickly, she can sometimes (but not always) "Reverse Dial," O-R-E-H, in order to revert in a hurry. The interval after which she can use The Dial once more after reverting to herself also varies-- it's not always immediate.

The Dial appears to have developed a neuropsychic link to Ruby; it only works for her, even to the point that it won't Dial for her if she's possessed or mind-controlled. She can sometimes use this link to subconsciously influence the powerset of the Hero she Dials, but this is not an exact science.

It's usable as an actual cellphone-- it appears to have signal anywhere, even when time traveling or on other planets or in other dimensions --and doubles as her communicator.

Ruby usually carries a Swiss Army Knife, tape for her knuckles, a cigarette lighter and a pack of smokes.

Power/ability - Ruby herself does not possess any super powers as such. But she is highly intelligent-- she translated Interlac on her own, for instance, and has studied numerous sciences and super-sciences since to try and understand The Dial --and skilled at adaptation and improvisation, able to use the randomness of The H-Dial's ectypes to surprising effect.

She has two decades of experience in heroism, having first used The H-Dial when she discovered it at 10 years old. Over that time, she has been an employee of the now-defunct Hero Hotline and a member of The Teen Titans, and has benefited from significant training with the latter, especially Aqualad (now Aquaman) and Robin (now Red Robin). As a result, she is in tremendous physical shape and is a real scrapper even when she hasn't Dialed. She's also excellent at parkour and quite nimble.

Weakness - Without the Dial's effects, she is only human. Separating her from The Dial just means you've got a tough-as-nails smart-ass on your hands.

She has a very occasional smoking habit.

Bio - Ruby was born to American parents living in Sydney, Australia. When she was 8, she was sent to Littleville, Colorado to live with her grandfather.

She was the only one who proved wise to the secret machinations going down when her town was beset by the criminal organization known as Thunderbolt. Wishing she was big enough and tough enough to stand up to the heavily-armed, secret-headquartered villains for hire, she and two of her friends were beset by one of Thunderbolt's machines, a landmover that caused a landslide that buried Ruby and dropped her into a cavern hidden beneath the Earth.

Ruby awoke to discover that with her in the cavern was a small, bizarre rotary dial engraved with letters and numbers like no alphabet on Earth. Finding her way out of the cavern, she returned home and used her prodigious intellect to decipher the alphanumerics-- and, following the instructions engraved onto the device, she Dialed the letters H-E-R-O.

Thus she became any number of heroic characters, male and female and in between, besting Thunderbolt over the next few years and fighting off any number of strange invaders and disasters, many of whom seemed drawn to The Dial.

In her formative years, she became a member of Hero Hotline, a phone line which people could use to hire heroes when they couldn't reach any of the big names of The Justice League or the like. When Hero Hotline dsbanded a few years later, the Hotline's Coordinator encouraged Ruby to take the organization's name as her own to carry on their brand and legacy. Henceforth she referred to herself as H-E-R-O Hotline, or just "Hotline."

She then joined The Teen Titans and has been with them ever since, even after the original generation of heroes grew out of the "Teen" moniker.

Notes - Most of the Aptitude & Powers Scales below reflect Ruby in her unDialed state, as The Dial's ectypes can drastically vary. The Power/Energy Projection stat, however, reflects the potential upper limits of her Dialed state as that stat includes technological devices.

Rather than having this writer (ChasNicollette) pick Ruby's ectypes and get an unfair advantage, she'll tag the OOC when Ruby Dials, asking the rest of the group what powers she should get/heroes she should copy.

Just to clarify:

rather than metagaming the Hell out of this and picking for myself what "random" powerset/hero-identity Ruby gets when she Dials, I'll ask you guys here in the OOC to chime in.

You could give me a power/powerset she should get, and I'll base a hero identity ectype off of that, or you could name another superhero/heroine (DC or otherwise), and I can either create an Expy based on that hero or just "copy" that hero straight up.

Just updating the roster from Legend's first post in The IC.

We may need to phase out Kelley Bishop, I PMed MilkManDan to see if he was coming back and I haven't heard back yet, though it was only a few days ago. He hasn't posted anywhere since he posted in this OOC on Feb 18, which means he's been gone even longer than Legend. :/

Does anyone have any interest in playing a sniper/archer/marksman type character a la Green Arrow/Hawkeye/et al? Just to round out the archetypes that Legend was hoping to fill?

If that concept doesn't pluck anyone's yew, I'll just have Lex bring in a third-stringer (pun!) as an NPC, like maybe Turk (Merlyn's sometimes-lycanthropic sidekick) or I, Spyder.

I'm maxed out for characters. I already have enough on my plate. I can't see why Hotline couldn't fill that role if we so needed it.

This is true, Hotline could become an Archer Archetype if that's what you guys give me, that's one of the positive aspects of her being a Roulette Swiss Army Knife.

But that's not quite the same as having a dedicated "I can hit anything with anything" guy/gal. As an Englishwoman, I've always had a soft spot for archers.

It's not a huge dealbreaker, in any event. Just something to satisfy the completionist in me. Gotta Catch Em All.

It's interesting to me that Legend didn't include Val-Zod in the roster, speaking of which, whether as Power Man or Superman.

Perhaps he never intended Val-Zod to become a member?

Rereading his bio, it seems like he came to Earth when he was five years old and barely remembers Krypton.

So if he's rampaging around Metropolis all starkers and yelling in Kryptonese, maybe something's happened to mindwipe him back to where he was when he came to Earth? Which is to say, he thinks he's five again and doesn't remember living on Earth all this time.

That might explain why he's lashing out-- he's a little boy throwing a tantrum because he doesn't understand what the fuck is going on, why he's in a fully-grown bearded body with the power of a god?

Maybe he got blndsided by Psimon or another telepathic villain, like Superboy in the "Young Justice" episode "Bereft." Maybe it's even a part of the same bigger plot that took out the original Superman and the other Leaguers?

Maybe he needs help and fixing, rather than a place at the table?

I dunno, I'm stuck in overthink mode.

Varshanka, what do you think?

I need a pint.

all the doctors are running through my head as women.

Your new character made me drool and breathe funny.

need a shower.. cold.. yes very cold.

let me finish a couple things quick and I may have some answers in about 60 minutes.

When I genderbend The Tenth Doctor, I fantasy-cast her as Amy Acker. If that helps your imagination at all.

Actress Ruby Rose is a person of mass infatuation, I swear to God. Part of my inspiration for casting her as a genderbent Robby Reed!

Take your time!
