It has always been fashionable to talk about the Internet in shared/democratic terms.

But somewhere out there, i figure one person can basically turn the whole thing off if he wants.

Who would that be?

Mexico.

And, now that everyone knows, the firewall just got ten feet higher.

Someone explain Tier 1 networks to the Groveller.

How about you tell us how it isn't possible for one person to shut it off?

That's the way a discussion works.

I realize of course that discussion for you is a challenge.

Give it a try, if you are able.

I'm pretty sure you haven't got the mental capacity to understand network architecture, Groveller. Perhaps you should interest yourself in something more at your level. Potty training, perhaps?

I guess you aren't able. Thanks for dropping by with your wisdom!

It's OK, Groveller. Why don't you run along and stick to something you actually can understand. I'm not sure what that would be, but there must be something.

Lance is nervous someone is going to shut down the barely legal web cams and escort services he spends his welfare check on.

You're thinking of the wizard of Oz.
His big lever isn't connected to the net.

You guys spend a lot of time talking about how smart you all are... Let's see what you really know... Or don't.

busybody and his secret cabal of Jews...

;) ;)

There are seven companies across the US that own the equipment for the Tier 1 parts of the Internet.

AT&T.
Verizon.
Sprint (Softbank Broadband)
Century Link (Qwest)
Level 3 (with Global Crossing now)
NTT/Verio.
Cogent

Kim Jong-un owns the net. He can turn it off merely by lobbing a few nukes over USA; EMP will do the trick.

Nobody. You figure wrong.

Let me put it in the simplest of terms: "The Internet" is not an entity. It's an industry.

I OWN the motherfucker:

it delivers,
when i want it
directly to my head

Infrastructure ownership is obviously important, but it's not one person.
