Justice League: The New Wave (OOC - Interest Check)

Speed of Mercury, all right.

Wow, that was quick!

What do you think, guys?

It looks good to me!

I worry we're a little bit top-heavy in the powers department, with three Kryptonian level characters-- four if you count Rose when she gets better at having powers.

But then again, the regular Justice League has about that level, too.

I should hopefully have a post for Kaldur in a little bit.

Looks good to me. And remember just because he's being used as the plot device for this initial phase doesn't mean he'll have to join the league. Talking about Val of course.

Varshanka:

Since we're currently unaware of Val-Zod's mindset in attacking Metropolis and Aquaman, do you think he's as much confused and scared as he is angry? Like when Supergirl crashlanded in Gotham in that one pre-Flashpoint "Superman/Batman" comic and its animated adaptation?

His dc.wiki article says that he struggled with agoraphobia at one point in the post-Flashpoint "Earth 2" comics, having trouble with open spaces after having lived in a capsule for much of his life. Could he be lashing out at something similar here?

Just so Rose has a concept of what she can zoom in on with her brain to find the real fight.

Seems like that could be a good way to go to me. Now my break is over and need to get back to guarding the kiddies at work.

This is true.

Post-Crisis/Pre-Flashpoint, Kal-El didn't actually join The Justice League until long after its initial formation with Hal, J'onn, Dinah, Barry, and Arthur. They even asked him and he said "no." Maybe this League will be without a Superman for awhile.

But, you know, wherever Var would prefer to put him is fine by me, I'm just talking shop.

I would have to go with confused lost and angry (he did get the shit smashed out of him for no real reason)

GR historical post up as soon as this is posted.

I also like that you kept in that electricity thing as an Achilles (heh) heel.

As much as I love Cap (and Mary!) they always seemed a little lacking in the Kryptonite department. Electricity works.

Maybe at some point Kaldur has to taze him to get him to behave and accidentally switches off his powers? Just spitballing.

I think it gives other characters a chance to depower him too. Like, I imagine Nightwing, The Batman of the group being able to depower him when he figures it out.

But I will warn that if they choose to do it each time, that Nathan does learn. They won't be able to use the same trick.

Aw, Saint Joan.

Okay, confused and angry it is!

Also, HC, you are (finally) tagged for Hiro.

Wouldn't have it any other way!

Translation

For those that need it:

Where are you Guilty one? I can smell you. I can hear the damned victims of your sins screaming for Justice. You must be do Penance for your crimes, before the Fallen One takes you. Only through Penance can you be forgiven of your crimes. Come to me Sinner, and face Justice!

(Oh, and for a clarification. The Rider is thinking this.. not speaking it. kinda hard to get to be italics for thought when it already looks jumbled on top of itself.)

but for those that hear such things, and feel them.. it's a screaming searchlight in The Graveyard at night.

and Chas.. http://superman.wikia.com/wiki/Rao

John is going to ignore that searchlight for as long as he can, Var, no offense. He and Hiro are going to do a thing to jumpstart Kaldur.

But he'll know that The Rider is coming for him. Heh, I was going to have him whiff that particular flavor of brimstone a mile off, but this'll do nicely as well.

And, yes, I know who Rao is.

The image in that article of Rao's humanoid form comes from my favorite chapter in Sandman's Endless Nights collection.

that's absolutely fine. :D

I was pretty sure Constantine would blink away before the rider got near him anyways.

Yeah, he might just hit The Synchronicity Highway rather than facing that particular music.

I haven't decided yet. :D

Var, what was Danni up to during The French Revolution?

I was wondering if she might have encountered Dream of The Endless, and perhaps The Lady Johanna Constantine, one messy month of Thermidor...

Officially, having experienced The First Revolution first hand, The Rider is Opposed to Rebellion, but tends to get called to such events as so much evil is commited during them.

so.. the Rider would have been ass deep in the shitstorm

I suspected as much.

Cool, I need to give this further thought.

Okay.

I've gotta do some stuff around the apartment, and watch OUAT, and brainstorm stuff for other threads.

But I'll try to circle back around tonight.

Hm...so what could Hiro do? lol

I wouldn't have minded him trying an infinite mass punch (he would probably call it a sonic punch or try to come up with some crazy name for it), but it seems like it's a 1x1 battle between the supes.

I suggest having him run to the scene of the battle for now.

Once you get there, Var can post as Val and Karan again.

If Val gets a good hit in, knocks Karan out of the ZIP code, then maybe there'll be an opening for someone else.

I was hoping we could try talking Val down, but if Val's not having it, he's not having it.

Unless we want to plan out the fight in more detail? Or play it faster and looser?

What does everyone prefer?

I say knock him on his Bluudy ARSE, then make him listen. Or start besting him so badly he has to leave.. or get killed.

I honestly prefer for this long-winded scene to end so that we can write out better and more organized adventures that makes everyone have a purpose and feel useful. That's what I prefer.

Okay.

We have been stalled in this scene for some time, I don't blame you.

The question remains, can we balance wrapping this up expediently with wrapping up in a meaningful fashion that establishes some nascent semblance of a team bond?

I honestly don't care how it's wrapped up. Hiro saved people and helped Aquaman. I can't speak for Vic and his Nightwing, but if he's happy with his contribution then whatever. This scene is just limiting/constricting everyone and I wish it would just die. So we can go on to plotting our own events. So we can be free! I want FREEDOM! Kill the dude, put him in prison, banish him to an unknown universe, idc. I just want this scene to end lol.

I have some ideas for where we can go after this.

In the meantime, I think we should finish up the fight in expedient but cathartic fashion so it'll still flow storywise into the next arc.

That having been said, I think an Infinite Mass Punch would be okay to knock the wind out of Val-Zod, if that's okay with Varshanka.

But: when Wally West used the Infinite Mass Punch in its inaugural (and I think only!) canonical appearance, decking Zum of The Hyperclan after getting a running start around the world at the speed of light, he was at the absolute zenith of his powers. He'd entered The Speed Force and returned at least once over the course of the Terminal Velocity and Dead Heat storylines, and had gotten good enough at running at near-lightspeed that he could skirt that speed limit without getting drawn into The Speed Force or bouncing off of it through time in an uncontrolled fashion (a la Max Mercury).

I realize that Hiro has already managed to access a Speed Force construct version of his uniform, so he may be some kind of Speed Force prodigy, but given the state of his skill and current power levels, would he be able to accomplish that feat without inadvertently entering that superluminal Valhalla?

If not, he could use a scaled down version (the Supersonic Punch shown on current "Flash" TV show) to a similarly scaled down effect.

If you honestly think he could pull off a full-fledged version of it, well, I don't have a problem with that as such.

But I would caution you not to overuse such an ability. It's a pretty good conversation-stopper, that's for damn sure. But I think there's a reason I can only recall one use of it in the comics-- Morrison and those after him realized that it was a gamechanger, and potentially a gamebreaker. Extreme moderation only, just for future reference.

Additionally, when Wally used it on Zum in the comics, Zum hurtled into a suborbital parabolic arc that knocked him from Mount Rushmore (if I recall correctly) and out of the atmosphere to crash-land in a crater in the African savanna. Which is pretty impressive, given that a fully-powered Pale Martian is roughly equivalent to Kryptonian in power level. But it didn't do him any permanent damage-- he showed up a few scenes later none the worse for wear. And I think a Kryptonian would be less fucked up by the heat of atmospheric re-entry, so knocking Val-Zod for that particular loop would seriously ring his bell but not necessarily put him down for very long.

Still, that could be long enough for our purposes.

Do you guys think you'd be cool with this?

Cider? Varshanka?

No; I wasn't planning on him running around the world, going so fast he's on the brink of entering Speedster Heaven. He would have just ran over and hit him at mach speeds lol.

But seriously, it doesn't have to happen. If Kara wants to finish Val, she can. As I said, my goal is to end this story arc. I don't have to do anything to help it end. I just can't wait for the dead horse to finally actually die.
