Unless you stuff that thing properly, it's never going to get you off, I don't care how good your rocking chair is. ;)

It's not a functional piece. Purely for aesthetics. Pfft, men. You just don't know good decor when you see it.

Well, that certainly went a little sideways.

Hobbies. Certainly they can range all over the board, as evidenced by some very recent posts. We all have interests, skills, and time to devote to our hobbies. Although at times, it feels like we all could use another hobby. So I have three questions around hobbies, answer one, answer all, or just move along.

1) Whether you want to admit it or not, do you consider Lit a hobby? There's an awful lot of time spent here

2) if you could acquire and skill or magically had sufficient time, what new hobby would you like to start?

3) At what point does something turn from an interest/activity/skill into a hobby?

I do consider it a hobby now. I've even described it that way to someone. When I look in my dropbox and see over a thousand pictures ive taken to post here it's either hobby or an obsession
2) if you could acquire and skill or magically had sufficient time, what new hobby would you like to start?
gardening like a pro...fruits and veggies. ..flowers...
3) At what point does something turn from an interest/activity/skill into a hobby?I'm sure there's some magical number of hours but if it's your immediate go to after your paid job I'd say it's it's a hobby
Answered ^^^^
Ooohhhhh. ..and I like imagining what everyone's hobbies are here!!!

I hadn't thought of it that way before, but I suppose I would have to say yes.

2) if you could acquire and skill or magically had sufficient time, what new hobby would you like to start?

Two things. I would also like to be a great gardener, to be one of those ladies with a beautiful greenhouse full of plants grown from heirloom seeds. To have beautiful flower beds and an abundant vegetable garden. But for now, I'll stick to my herbs and pepper plants that I grow in pots on my patio.

I would also like to be able to sing well.

What's the difference between an interest/activity/skill and a hobby by your definition?

I would say an interest is something that, well, interests you but you aren't active in participating in it routinely. I have an interest in Plotinus but I'm not part of any campaign or cause.

Activity - something that you do but not with any regularly. Like going for a bike ride on a nice spring day doesn't make you a cyclist.

And skill - something like woodworking, or baking, or gardening. You have talent at it, you do it well, when you are doing it. I can bake a mean batch of cookies, but I don't necessarily enjoy the process or do it very often.

3) At what point does something turn from an interest/activity/skill into a hobby?

1)well, I've always considered Lit more of an obsession. I've even thought of forming a group to deal with Lit. addiction: Litaholics Anonymous. We'd have meetings, trade stories...pretty much what we do here, now actually.

2) I would love to play a musical instrument, like the piano or guitar. Those guys always get laid, too.

3) I don't really have hobbies, I have obsessions. I'm a collector, and there is always that rare book, or toy, or something out there....so I'm never really done. The search always continues....

1. I guess it's a hobby. But I do have people here who I consider genuine friends. So it is a bit of hobby. A bit of something else.

2. I'd like to be a wood worker or someone who can work on cars. I think both of those are great skills and I can't do either.

3. When you make time to do it. You don't just admire from afar. You engage in it.

Good question today, Papa C.

2) I would love to play a musical instrument, like the piano or guitar. Those guys always get laid, too.

I've played guitar for about 25 of my 32 years on this earth and girls still think I'm icky. I suppose I should learn piano.

I bet Liberace killed it with the ladies.

all the ladies loved Liberace....too bad he was gay lol

1) I would maybe classify Lit as a hobby? It's tough to answer because it is more than that...it's something that interests me right now.

2 & 3 ) I paint and I sketch, those could be considered hobbies and I have recently taken up pottery just for fun, I enjoy learning new things so will often just try something because I think it would be fun. I have started to learn to play the acoustic as well. Will these things stick long enough to become hobbies rather than just stuff I've tried? Who knows.. If I could acquire a skill magically, it would likely be wood working / carpentry, I love the idea of being able to design and build something.

Next you're gonna tell me Elton John is gay.

ETA- aahhhhhhh. I just saw your Elton post. You're a lying fucker.

well, I do like to lie down when I fuck.....but what does that have to do with the fact that Elton John is gay?

Im going to attempt a legitimate answer here:

1. For me, sex is a hobby. I know sex is a biological need (for most people), and this might sounds akin to saying "breathing is a hobby." But along those lines, we all need to eat, yet some people are "foodies." I have the same deep interest in all things sexy. Lit falls under that umbrella. Plus I hate Facebook so I get my e-social-fix here.

2. I'd like to pour more time into the interests I already have -- writing, crafting, gardening, painting, traveling, photography, web design, cooking, canning, yoga... I guess if I *had* to pick up something new it would be to go back to school for a couple more degrees-- art therapy sounds good-- with an added MBA to help me open my own clinic one day. But are careers hobbies?

3. I think it's based on how much time and you spend doing it, practicing it. I think the amount of time is probably different for everyone.

Sends out a quick high five to a fellow Facebook/social media hater! Getting rid of FB was by far one of the best things I've ever done.

high fives back!

*on hiatus from FB since 2014 and proud of it*

Oh, you go girl!

I've been on hiatus from quite a few things since 2014. It was a significant and life-changing year for me. Unfortunately, FB wasn't one of them.

*sits happily in quiet contemplation of just how much more awesome life will be in 2018 after my 2-year hiatus* :)

3) At what point does something turn from an interest/activity/skill into a hobby?

1) Lit is a very nice pastime, but not a hobby.

2) Music! I would love to be able to play several instruments and to sing.

3) I think it is the amount of brain-time involved which makes the difference. An interest is just that, one thinks about it once in a while. An activity too. Example: I am not planning my walks or bike rides for days in advance, the idea pops up when the weather is nice, I have time or can combine it with something I have to do, like riding my bicycle to shops further away or taking a detour along the lake and shop where I usually shop. I often take walks or ride my bicycle but it is not a hobby. Now for crocheting I can spend hours, days, even weeks planning the next project, decide for whom it will be, what this person would like, what color(s) I will use, which pattern, how big it will be and so on.

1)well, I've always considered Lit more of an obsession. I've even thought of forming a group to deal with Lit. addiction: Litaholics Anonymous. We'd have meetings, trade stories...pretty much what we do here, now actually.

When is the first meeting?
