Calls to boycott Starbucks have been made by various feminist groups after a sign reading “Please no entry for ladies only send your driver to order. Thank you” was spotted on one of its shop windows in Saudi Arabia.

“Since women do not have access to the cafés in Saudi Arabia, I have decided to stop going there myself. The sexism spoiled the coffee.”

Segregation of men and women is entrenched in Saudi law, and Human Rights Watch claims the country practises “systematic discrimination against women.”

Members of feminist group LesefFRONTEé-e-s went so far as to picket a Paris Starbucks, carrying signs that likened the alleged incident to Nazi Germany’s discriminatory treatment of Jews.

With it has come an angry reaction from French feminists. A group called Osez Le Feminisme, who have almost 80,000 Facebook likes, paid a visit to a Starbucks and sang an anti-discrimination song. They likened Starbucks in Saudi to Nazi Germany and Apartheid and are boycotting the coffee chain.

The Arabic language daily 'Al Weaam' said the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the most influential law enforcing authority in the conservative Gulf Kingdom, ordered the café’s management not to admit women.

It said the commission issued the order after its members, who were on a routine inspection in the market, found that the gender-separation wall ordered by authorities for all restaurants and other shops has collapsed.

It said the management told the cops that the wall has collapsed many times because of persistent stampedes by the customers.

It's the right-wing government there, not the company's fault.

I don't think that this is related to the topic of this thread.

But since it was brought up: I personally agree with strict rules re separation of toilets in middle and high-school, according to gender. The ruling sounds a bit strange, but I think that it's a blanket statement instead of one that targets any particular group.

Hormones just start kicking in during puberty, and teens also have poor impulse control.
You don't want even One incident where the occasional horny male kid with antisocial tendencies walks on a semi-naked girl or boy etc. in a toilet. Plus the locked cubicle makes it the perfect place for overpowering the potential victim and for sexual assault. I heard about a few such cases.
Those incidents are rare, indeed, but the trauma and life-long consequences are 100 times worse
than for adults.

EDIT.
Also: my take on that is that such a ruling would place the burden on the adults responsible for those kids and for enforcing it. (educators, school staff).
My understanding is that the kids wouldn't be automatically prosecuted (they're minors), unless they committed a more serious crime. But that those responsible for those kids (educators, principles) have the duty to educate the kids or to issue them warnings etc. if they keep breaking the law.

Unless I'm mistaken, of course.(I obviously don't have a background in Law)
