Militia takes over Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters in Oregon

Creepy

I guess ole Finicum's books sales are not going too well.

Robert “LaVoy” Finicum and his wife Jeanette were foster care parents for troubled boys. Finicum estimates that over the past decade, more than 50 boys came through their ranch near Chino Valley, Arizona. The boys often landed there from mental hospitals, drug rehabs and group homes for emotionally distressed youth.

“My ranch has been a great tool for these boys,” Finicum said. “It has done a lot of good.”

Finicum runs a cattle ranch in Arizona where he says he barely breaks even on the cattle and the loss of 50 extra foster ranch hands children is going to make it financially difficult on the Finicums:

That represents an enormous loss of income for the Finicums. According to a 2010 tax filing, Catholic Charities paid the family $115,343 to foster children in 2009. That year, foster parents were compensated between $22.31 and $37.49 per child, per day, meaning if the Finicums were paid at the maximum rate, they cared for, on average, eight children per day in 2009.

“That was my main source of income,” Finicum said. “My ranch, well, the cows just cover the costs of the ranch. If this means rice and beans for the next few years, so be it. We’re going to stay the course.”

Send snacks!

I really like those salt and pepper almonds. Pringles are always a nice choice.
Chocolate cake. Cookie dough ice cream. Baby wipes.

You are a Great American!

One dead, one injured and six under arrest.

Authorities say shots were fired during the arrest of members of an armed group that has occupied a national wildlife refuge in Oregon for more than three weeks.

In a statement Tuesday, the FBI said one individual "who was a subject of a federal probable cause arrest is deceased." No other information about the deceased was immediately released.

The FBI said authorities arrested Ammon Bundy, 40, his brother Ryan Bundy, 43, Brian Cavalier, 44, Shawna Cox, 59, and Ryan Payne, 32, during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 395. Authorities said another person, Joseph Donald O'Shaughnessy, 45, was arrested in Burns.

Faithful husband, father and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LaVoy Finicum was shot and killed in cold blood today by authorities as he stood with his hands raised above his head. Multiple witnesses say that he was unarmed when the authorities shot him in the face.

One old, religious whacko white guy down, how many more to go...

I'm thinking progressives and #blacklivesmatter alike aren't bothered at all this time.

I'm confused...

These guys were armed for weeks, and all of a sudden, they're unarmed?

How did that occur?

Did they lay down their arms, int he face of the tyrannical government? If so, it's definitely fucked up that an unarmed guy got shot, but that begs the question: "why wasn't he true to his word"?

You know all about that sort of thing, don't you Eeyore?

I'll admit CNN is not the best source.

A law enforcement official told CNN that authorities pulled over two vehicles. Everyone obeyed orders to surrender except two people: LaVoy Finicum and Bundy's brother, Ryan Bundy, the official said.

Shots were fired, but it's not known who fired first, the official said.

Ryan Bundy was injured, but Finicum died, the official added.

Finicum was among the most outspoken of the occupiers who took over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge near Burns on January 2 to protest federal land policies.

Earlier this month, he said he'd rather be killed than arrested.

"Absolutely ... I have no intention of spending any of my days in a concrete box," he told NBC News. "There are things more important than your life and freedom is one of them," he said. "I'm prepared to defend freedom."

How many times in the last couple of years have we all read, at Lit and elsewhere, that "when the police give you an order, you obey that order, or else!" This is typically what we hear to justify the deaths of any number of unarmed black people, some of them children. Now the Eyers of the world have this same logic turned on their own people, and surprise surprise, they don't like it very much.

On the bright side, Finicum's book will probably sell a lot better now that it's posthumous.

Wait, are you calling Eeyore inconsistent and irrelevant?

He's the most important poster on this board, he said so just today. He couldn't be lying.

"their own people"?

:D

That's friggin' funny...

Once again: you should simply have the gumption to say what you believe all on your own without invoking what your starving ego must fabricate about me for your main support. Why do you incessantly expose that character fault of yours, wannabe?

BTW: there aren't any "Eyers of the world" - there's just me.

Only "Amon" I know from history:

Amon Leopold Göth pronounced [ˈɡøːt] (spelled in some English sources as Goeth) (11 December 1908 – 13 September 1946) was an Austrian SS-Hauptsturmführer (captain) and the commandant of the Kraków-Płaszów concentration camp in Płaszów in German-occupied Poland for most of the camp's existence during World War II. He was tried as a war criminal after the war by the Supreme National Tribunal of Poland at Kraków and was found guilty of personally ordering the imprisonment, torture, and extermination of individuals and groups of people. He was also convicted of homicide, the first such conviction at a war crimes trial, for "personally killing, maiming and torturing a substantial, albeit unidentified number of people". He was executed by hanging not far from the former site of the Płaszów camp. The film "Schindler's List" (1993) depicts his practice of shooting camp internees.

Ammon with two m's was the son Lot sired on one of his daughters. Not totally surprising that inbreeding and the Bundy's are associated.;)
