So I'm working on a story, but with a dozen things running through my mind, I can't seem to come up with a realistic scenario. Of course, this is Lit, so anything goes, but I would prefer to make things as realistic as possible. Yes seriously, like real life, where the couple has to go back to work at their own jobs on Monday, not Lit-Life, where everyone turns into a nympho that's won the lottery so they can have sex 26 hours a day. In my story I've already got hesitation and regret, paired with jealousy and arguing, but I'm not sure where to take this to make it seem real.

Hubby and Wife are “normal” suburbanites, and I'm not trying to get into the lifestyle of cuckold/cuckqueen/group/orgy/cfnm/etc. Instead, I'm trying to write the story of Dick and Jane as they experiment and rekindle their sex life. Of course a few artistic liberties will be taken here and there, but I don't want this to go too far into the realm of unrealism.

Scene:
A couple goes to Vegas to rekindle their sex life. The first night there, Hubby and Wife meet a Guy who easily agrees to let them use his room for sex while he takes pictures (duh). By the end of the night, Guy's hands and mouth have access to every part of Wife's body except between her legs.

The next night, the three of them go to the hotel bar again. Hubby, Wife, and Guy are all watching the traffic through their area while talking about their plans for that night. Guy gets tired of the chatter, so he goes flitting through the crowd while Hubby and Wife try to come to an agreement over what's allowed, plus where and when things can happen – or if they should call it off early and go home that night.

Guy finds a woman that half-heartedly agrees to the idea of taking photos of the three of them, and the condition is that she is either dressed in only bra and panties, or simply topless. This is both in order to prevent her from running away with the camera, and to help keep everyone in the mood while she's clicking away. When Girl is at their table, she clearly doesn't believe the setup, thinking it's some sort of reality TV show where she's getting punk'd or something. Girl tests them by asking both Guy and Hubby to rub Wife's nipples over her shirt at the same time. They do this without any of the three of them batting an eye, and they all smile widely. After she checks the IDs of the other three to confirm that Wife and Hubby are married, but Guy lives across the country from them, Girl decides to ...

=====

So what happens? Does Wife end up between Guy and Hubby while Girl takes pics/vids? Do Guy and Girl hook in bed next to the couple? Is Girl stuck between Hubby and Guy while Wife manages the camera? Does one of the men get 'stage fright' and can't perform, leading to the other man doing the deed? Should Hubby and Wife cut their losses (gains?) and go home immediately? Does Girl laugh it off and leave with Guy, while Hubby and Wife go to their room alone? Taxi sex? Am I totally crazy for asking all these questions?

Hubby gets behind the camera, and Girl joins the wife and Guy

I am confused by asymmetry in the "rekindling their sex life" trope. Swapping, yes. Mutual intensity, yes. Infiltrating a lover, not really IMHO. Mea culpa: I have lived in MFM and FMF relationships; I was invited into both, not to 're-kindle' anything, but we were close friends and it seemed right (and hot). I've also had partnerships fall apart because we were too open. I'll suggest that bringing in an outsider to "spice up" a relationship is a formula for disaster.

I'll put it to y'all as people, not authors. Would outside sex enhance your parntership?

At least once quite possibly, at least in the short term. In the long term it ended anyway so. . .worst case scenario I'd be in the same place I am now.

Regardless here's the snag with "real life" vs "Lit life." When all is said and done Lit Life is all around tamer (in general) than real life. As is (good) fiction as a whole. This is because and I cannot stress this enough. Real life can be as random as it wants. Fiction has to make sense.

By which I mean if you made a serious movie (so I'm not talking about Ironman or. . .insert Anime Character here) and had them shout “All right, they’re on our left, they’re on our right, they’re in front of us, they’re behind us…they can’t get away this time” The audience would flip their shit. Look at Revenge Porn and Sexting, real people do some damn crazy shit and on camera no less. (And occasionally regret it.) It seems like once a year or so we hear about a guy who's parachute doesn't open and he survives with minor injuries. Again can you imagine a serious movie with a regular person surviving that? I don't mean Bugs Bunny who could fall from orbit if it was funny or Captain America who is explicitly super human but a Romantic movie with someone parachuting to prove their love, it failing to open and them getting a broken arm and walking away? Course not. That doesn't even begin to cover the myriad of other crazy shit that if you start digging through the news can and does happen to people.

To Hypoxia here's the snag in your logic. It doesn't have to help the relationship. One of them needs to think it will and the other needs to either agree or reluctantly give in. People are often incorrect in their assessments of what would fix a situation. So you may very well be right for the masses but all it takes is two dumb dumbs who think they know better than you and we're off to the races as they say.

Yes you are crazy for asking because ultimately all of those scenarios are roughly equally likely to occur so which ever one you find the most fascinating/sexy is the correct idea. Personally I'm all for the female cameraman (don't start. Cameraperson sounds stupid and in English the masculine is the traditional neutral. Meaning if you don't know it's female it's male by default. Blame Jesus.) Not getting involved and watching because while I'm not a huge fan of the first person story telling angle this sounds like a lovely place to use it. She's approached, confused at first, plays along and everything goes relatively smoothly. No stage fright, just crazy sweaty, sexy fun.

"Of course a few artistic liberties will be taken here and there, but I don't want this to go too far into the realm of unrealism."

That scene is already unrealistic. Go to vegas, meet a stranger, have sex, then invite another stranger to take pictures...the only realistic part is going to vegas.

You need to set the stage of why they lost their sex life to determine what is realistic to rekindle it. Is it time, boredom, no attraction, hormones, other people...the why is very important. Normal suburbanites don't just say hey let's have sex with a stranger...in vegas. What attempts have they made so far? What has worked? What advice do their friends give-especially the wife. This is much more realistic but it's also more involved.

Do you want to balance realism with failed attempts and taboo sex? There is a long distance between real and your scenario. You could have a history of them doing random threesomes, that would lead into your scene more realistically. It depends on who they are, that will give you a path to realism.
