Think that I agree with Trump's comment about "Apple needs to make their shit in America."

China has been waging a war against America and finally Obama kind of acted. The day after Obama's agreement, China was back to hacking America.

THIS IS A GRAVE MISTAKE BY OBAMA

Sadly Obama lacks intelligence and common sense.

Has anyone thought to ask the question, "Why is China trying to change their economy from a mass exporter?"

China declared war on USA decades ago. Reagan, Bushes, Clintons et al sucked it up. You do too, every time you shop. You want to punish China? Make your own stuff, don't buy Chinese.

The main purpose behind China's communist dictatorship is so that it can be exploited by private industry for cheap labor.

Everyone bitches about china...everyone still gives them their money.

Once they move to a consumer based economy, watch out. Hence the islands and building naval carriers.

Just think if they told America we are no longer selling to you ...

Mao's communist coup in China was setup and orchestrated by the big banks and Rockefellers/Rothschilds back in the late 1940's.

Today it is a dumping ground for corporate slave labor.

Americans would have a lot more jobs, would quickly become a net exporter again and go back to what people pretend they want. Not sure they really want it but still.

You actually have a point there. If we imported nothing from China, yes ~ there would be more American jobs as factories would have to be built. Question is, could we recover in time

With incredible ease. To the point that your question about could we recover in time is hilarious. That's like asking can someone recover quickly from getting a massive raise. Complaints nobody ever made include "I'm making too much money!"

The question is if we really want to go back to that kind of economy when the reality is that we are, essentially, entitled to better lives than that at this point. In the same way that 16 year olds lift boxes at the warehouse, 30 year olds instruct 16 year olds as they lift boxes and 60 year olds make phone calls so that trucks bring boxes to the 16 year olds to lift boxes. In a sane world Africa and to a lesser extent South America become the next major manufacturing hubs of the world as China moves into the same space that America and Europe are in where we don't really make a whole lot when we can avoid it.

Sean, you don't understand the big picture or details of what something like this would entail.

In the 1990s, continued "most favoured nation" status for the People's Republic of China by the United States created controversy because of its sales of sensitive military technology and China's serious and continuous persecution of human rights.[5] China's MFN status was made permanent on December 27, 2001. All of the former Soviet states, including Russia, were granted MFN status in 1996.

Then explain it.

In the meanwhile I do understand the big picture and the details of what something like this would entail. IT would mean opening American factories and training people to work in the American factories. Lots of the old factories are still there, just shuttered up and could be renovated relatively quickly and the reality is that where there is a will there's a way and making new factories would be relatively easy in the grand scheme of things.

However the reality is that China will not stop selling to us until a new player steps into the game or something else huge hits. I mean anything could happen.

The only question really would be if China started buying from us but without knowing what caused this magical scenario. . .

Yup, just like they bitch about wal-mart and amazon and how they are destroying small business, but yet they all keep shopping there.

They need to figure out how to go ask for a contract or an account cuz themz the marketplaces to be selling at.

I don't hear much bitching about Amazon tbh. And I don't shop there not out of any moral standing mind you I just don't. As for Wal-Mart a lot of times a lot of people don't have much in the way of choice. The reality with Wal-Mart is simple. For all intents and purposes they won and barring some massive shift in the world they will continue to win so how do we deal with it?

Once the house is on fire it very quickly ceases to matter who took a shower in kerosene and fell asleep smoking. Sure you need to scold them when you put the fire out but there is an order of operations.

you are completely insane. the US and China are codependent superpowers and China owns 18 trillion of our national debt. if we stopped trading there would be a recession that would make the great depression look like a national holiday.

please elaborate on how the Insidious Chinaman has ruined our economy, though.

Yes the US and China are codependent and this scenario would never happen. I accept that, I was playing along. China does not known 18 trillion of our debt, they own less than $1.2 trillion We could pay them off relatively quickly if we gave a shit.

I didn't say the insidious Chinaman has ruined our economy. In fact if you'd been reading I suggested that he improved it.

Not to mention the debt means fuck all if they cut us off from our slave labor...if they did that we would just tell them to take their debt and eat it with a big side dish of M'uricuh Fuck Yea!

Debt instantly gone because fuck em!

so what exactly is the grave mistake that you are referring to and why should Apple make their shit in america? how are they at war with america if they have improved our economy?

you said that if we stopped importing goods from china, american factories would magically reopen. please explain that dissonance.

I made no claim that there would be a grave mistake, that was the OP. I choose when posting in other people's threads that if I'm not going to attack the premise I simply accept that it could happen. The same way I would if someone said that Obama's disrespect to the UK was going to lead to EU vs USA war. It' absurd but you work with what you've got.

Apple should make their shit in America to improve our economy if we're talking morals. If we're talking economics at the moment they'd be insane to do so. But again I didn't set the premise.

Once again, I'm not the OP. I don't believe China is at war with the United States. I think they are heavily dependent on us and are more than smart enough to know that something that ends poorly for us is unlikely to go well for them.

If we stopped importing goods from China (and no other low labor cost nation popped up) we would by necessity reopen factories. We wouldn't really have a choice in the matter. How quickly and aggressively depends heavily on if we thought it was a long or short term shift in the world but make no mistake people are not going without Iphones and Nike just because the Chinese went on vacation.

Just curious are you officially admitting you were wrong about the amount of Chinese held debt? Or was my source bullshit?

Plenty of other countries make stuff, doesn't take much to read a tag and move on. Granted somethings are getting to be impossible to find that wasn't made in china, like electronics, but start small and do something if you want change.

Really it's even harder than that for a lot of things electronics being the worse. The made in label counts where it was assembled but not necessarily where it was "made". If a Chinese factory sends your car parts in the mail and a mechanic in Alabama just pieces them together where was it "made"?
