Militia takes over Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters in Oregon

But obviously could give a shit about justice.

Ishmael

I remember all your posts about justice when a twelve year old child was executed for playing in a park.

Oh, wait, no I don't. Why's that, do you suppose?

As long as the cops don't try to storm the place it can be a negotiated surrender..if they storm it, they better be prepared for the consequences.

No hostages, nobody is in danger...all the time in the world

You'd be singing a different tune if these were armed Muslim terrorists, rather than Mormon ones.

I understand the empirical reasoning behind it... but what exactly defined the different social classes? What exactly did you need to prove your status?

I'm curious.

It was simple.

A working man had a job even if he was self-employed. He had to work for a living.

A gentleman had independent means. He was not in "trade". His income was from his investments in land, shares, or government funds.

A landed gentleman was in Burke's Peerage or the Almanac de Gotha.

How many cars pre-1996 are on the road today? Give me a percentage of what you think it might be...

5%? Maybe 10%?

Outlawing guns is political suicide. But the rest of the world shows that it's not impossible, it's just not gonna happen.

Do other countries have the right to bear arms enshrined as the 2nd amendment to the constitution?

Do the Swiss have similar issues with violence? They have military weapons in their home, and not "assault rifles", but actual, bonafide military rifles.

You can stroke your emotional outrage all day if you want, but it doesn't make it fact.[/QUOTE]

I'd bet closer to 15 but I don't know where I'd even begin to look that information up. But again, cars get a lot more wear and tear on average than firearms do. My grandfather handed down four fire arms to my father and then to me. Of them only one of them doesn't function and that was because he never gave a shit and had a leak in his house. The 300 million weapons in the US is based on an estimate of sales, if 20 million are sold in the US each year the number of functional firearms in the US has got to be north of one billion or else SOMEONES numbers are fucked.

Honestly who gives a shit about the Constitution? I mean if you're point is still that it's political suicide I never argued that wasn't the case.

Given that rifles are rarely used in crimes we'd be better looking at their handgun ownership for starters but this is like the Chicago argument, why when there are literally two contintents do you focus entirely on one country? Oh because it's the exception that proves the rule.

No, what makes it fact is the unfortunate truth of being a fact. Gun control works. We don't want it and need to stop pretending we care about the deaths that are caused and instead treat it the same way we do deaths by automobile. An acceptable cost for being able to go to the movies.

I've haven't seen so much irrelevant bull shit in one thread in a LONG time.

The 'occupiers' are not terrorists. No lives or property has been threatened. And a statement re. 'self-defense' is NOT a threat.

Nor are they criminals. To my knowledge no warrants have been issued or served. No trial has taken place with any verdict of guilt from said non-trial.

The points re. Ferguson et al seem to be flying right over the heads of the big city dips shits spouting off in this thread. Dip shits that have zero idea what is going on in the west. Don't have a clue as to the nature of the country and couldn't hike over the next ridge line without getting lost, or pissing themselves in fear but seem to think they know exactly what is best. Get a clue junior rangers, this ain't Central Park.

For the past 4 decades the Federal government has used intimidation, and in some cases violations of their own laws, to force ranchers and farmers off their lands. The government has been acquiring more and more land while the budgets associated with said land and the management thereof has been dwindling. The government has neither the monies nor the man power to properly care for the lands they had before they embarked on this wholesale program of land seizure and they have even less now. Most of the devastating forest fires of the past 3 decades have been as a direct result of federal land management policy. More to the point, the fact they aren't managing the land at all. Billions of dollars of property has been lost as well as hundreds of lives as a result.

But the junior rangers of the big cities cleave to the notion that the West is just a big Central Park.

So you want to blow'em out of there. What's the plan? A full frontal assault? As suggested napalm? Cluster bomb? Go ahead, make some martyrs. Remember, they hung John Brown too. Serious over reaction driven by a press eager for some blood so show on the evening news. If you just ignored them they'd be slinking out of there before the winter was over, but the press isn't going to allow that.

Oh, and race isn't an issue, neither are guns.

Gun politics in Switzerland are unique in Europe. The vast majority of men between the ages of 20 and 34 are conscripted into the militia and undergo military training, including weapons training. The personal weapons of the militia are kept at home as part of the military obligations. However, it is generally not permitted to keep army-issued ammunition, but compatible ammunition purchased for privately owned guns is permitted. At the end of military service period the previously used gun can be converted to a privately owned gun after a weapon acquisition permit has been granted (fully automatic weapons will be rebuilt into semi-automatic ones)

In the UK the figure is fairly high for pre-1975 vehicles because the road tax for them is zero. Many of the cars from the 1980s have disappeared because they have to pay full road tax and they can't use unleaded fuel.

But pre-1960 cars tend to be cars for fine weather and attending shows, not for daily use. Most of them just can't keep up with modern traffic conditions.

Having said that, I met a driver heading for the Calais ferry to Dover with a 1930 Bentley 8-litre who had driven it from Beijing to Paris. Parts of his car were held on with Duck Tape - what a way to treat a million dollar's worth of antique automobile. He thought that the repairs after the trip would cost him about one hundred thousand dollars - but "It was worth it for the experience!".

The FBI is handling a criminal case against the armed men occupying the refuge since Saturday, and has told Ward that the men will face charges. The sheriff still believes a peaceful resolution to the conflict is possible.

“The bureau has assured me that those at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge will at some point face charges,” Ward said.

By far the stupidest allegation in this thread is the "poaching" allegation.

Explain to me you Central Park Regulars, exactly how does burning some grass land prevent one from being charged with poaching?

Ishmael

By destroying evidence. It seems a rather absurd method to take but your question isn't serious so skip to your trap card.
