About that nuclear landfill fire in St. Louis...

Most of the radioactive material is barium sulfate, which is the stuff they use to X-ray people's intestines.

If it really is barium sulphate down there then I wouldn't worry.
Since landfill fires are almost always caused by methane, it can't burn hot enough to effect barium sulfate. It would have to be nearly twice as hot to do that.

If you aren't worried I'm sure you could go pick some properties at a bargain price. Burning garbage is probably good for you and also the neighborhood.

...It's been burning for ~3 1/2 years.

Most underground fires burn for years. Decades even. Not entirely sure why that is but it is.
Never did understand why we bury nuclear waste. Can't imagine anything good coming from that.

Out of sight, out of mind.

NYC used to haul all their garbage 100 miles out to sea and let it drift back onto NJ.
Then they started hauling it to Penn and Del.
Now they're toting it all to the Finger Lake region upstate.
They cut a deal for a garbage train. 36 boxcars of garbage a day. 3.3 billion dollars.
Those people up there must really be loving the stench.
Maybe the most beautiful region in NY is now becoming America's biggest landfill.

It's a problem.
