A number of threads have been closed here recently under the new posting rules for the AH. None of these threads would have been closed on the GB.

So instead of closing threads, if they are inappropriate, just transfer them to the GB.

There might be a number of advantages:

1. The debate could continue for the satisfaction of participants.

2. The debate could continue elsewhere to the satisfaction of (AH) non-participants.

3. Those interested might gain fresh insights from the more subtle minds of the GB.

Just a thought.:)

This was discussed in the beginning, and my opinion is that it's not fair for the GB to be the dumping ground for everyone else's trash.

Other than a series of threads that probably, in most part, should have been in the GB to begin with, the closed threads are more about AH business than most of the other threads posted to the AH. They just are inconvenient for Lit. to acknowledge and face.

I don't see the real need to make folks comfortable here just by sweeping everything controversial under the rug. You don't seem that invested in the place.

Just to be clear, I closed that thread for the reasons stated. I have been aware of it all day. It is only when it degenerated into name-calling, targeting a specific member, and the common endless attempt to get the last word that I closed it.

I should have deleted it the moment I saw it, because it was meant to be a trolling thread. It's only by omission that the thread skewed into a broader discussion of copyright which had merit.

There is no person on this forum who can alter the avatar, profile picture, signature, or any other element of another member's biographical information. The only person who can do that is Laurel.

Discussing it on the forum is pointless wheel-spinning.

No, it wasn't meant to be a trolling thread. You are way off base in considering as trolling any criticism of a Web site that is functionally broken and unattended as this one is (with more formal forum rules, for instance, that no longer represent policy than the ones that do and not even bothering to update the rules). That's just living in never never land of pretense and head in the sand. I did expect the other thread to disappear quickly and am pleased to have gotten some stuff from under the rug because it wasn't erased. I still expect it to be erased, as well as this post because Web site admin won't give this Web site the attention and cleanup it so badly needs. Its answer to everything is that it's just trolls posting. Balls to that. Sometimes the smell of rotten eggs actually leads to rotten eggs.

The AH certainly has taken a hard turn from what the rules still state--that anything goes--to Gestapo tactics.

The statement of your original intent is to call out a single member, which is trolling.

Because that was left out of the original post, even though I knew the real intent, I allowed the thread to remain, and the accidentally meritorious discussion of the disconnect between copyright and the digital age to continue.

Ok then, how about a thread that is post, after post, after post of nothing but troll baiting? Why is it still here and going strong? Is it that no one has taken the bait? Troll baiting is troll baiting whether anyone takes the bait or not. Otherwise you're going to be closing a lot more threads when people figure out the best way to get rid of these threads is to take the bait.

interesting catch 22, ain't it.
