There is only one thing an American administration could do to have a serious effect on the oil price, declare war on Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi's are the world's biggest producer of oil. The regulate the price by increasing or decreasing their production.

Add to that the Saudi's now have to actually pump their oil out of the ground rather than just turn on a tap and they are not the force they were. Still the biggest but extra exploration bought on by the huge price spike four years ago and their increased cost of production is slowly squeezing them by the gonads.

But the point is still the same there is little the US administration can do to change the oil price.There is a whole world out there and plenty of other producers. Oil is easily transportable so it is the world price that governs everything.

Right now the US home market is enjoying cheap gas (as opposed to gasoline). However, once the terminals are finished to allow them to export their gas, that too will rise to world market prices. The only thing that can stop that is an export ban. Can anyone seriously see that happening?

I'm not really complaining it is kind of entertaining seeing the arguments about which president is responsible for something neither one could do anything about.

California has ALWAYS had some of the highest gas prices. Several decades ago eople voted to add to the price for taxes to be used for improving roads, which as far as I know, never really happened (the improvements, not the taxes). The CA government added more taxes. If you take all the extra taxes off, CA gas is comparable to other states. There is a sign posted on the tanks at the gas station, next time you are there, add up all those taxes then subtract that from the price you are paying. You will see what the actual cost is. Compared to other countries, our gasoline prices are pretty low even with additional taxes.
