Prototype or Stereotype?

At the hospital I used both constructs to tag patients. Its what diagnoses are all about. But it gets worse:

When youre really good at diagnosing patients you tend to reduce them to a tee shirt motto that says it all. I call it FINDING THEIR SOUL.

Take Borderline Personality Disorder. Whole libraries are filled with books on the subject. Such people are psychotic and neurotic. So my mottos for these people are: PRE-CHANGE LESBIAN or I CAN MAKE YOU HOMICIDAL IN 15 MINUTES OR LESS! These are stereotypes.

The prototype is like this: Lesbian, alcoholic, bipolar (manic and depressed), with intermittent sexual/violence eruptions with hostile affect.

I suspect such people experience testosterone poisoning, but my view isn't shared.

Anyway, I believe stereotypes and prototypes were made by God for fiction writers.

Add self-harming.

The sister-in-law in the second story I put up on Lit was based in part on a borderline character, but she wasn't into cutting. I think the first comment I got on the story was that my characters were vile. In her case I had to agree.

Have sex with a borderline and doze off. When you wake up she's gone and the sheets are covered with blood because she sat up while you were asleep and cut her legs with a razor blade. Dark characters.

I knew a schizophrenic girl who shit on your bed after.

It's useful shorthand. Saves a lot of repetition to rely on what others already know about people. The writer can then remold and accessorize just as we all do with proto-/stereotypes to interpret new people.

God himself is a stereotype.

Maybe that's one secret of his success, him being elected by a large majority...twice, stopping only because the Constitution doesn't allow a third big win.

Go take a 2nd look at the numbers. Plus he lost the Congress.

On a greater scale neither party yet see's the disaster headed their way in 2016. Even FOX doesn't get it.

Okay, your posts here are interesting enough that I thought I might like to check out your stories. But you don't provide a link.

So I went to the story search page. Five minutes of searching provided nothing. And five minutes is all I'm willing to invest.

I'd like to read your stories, but seriously, you aren't worth more than five minutes of my life trying to find them. Care to provide a link? If you do, I will happily read your stories and provide (non-anonymous) feedback. If you don't, well, you can go fuck yourself. Capiche?

No offence intended but I don't care if people read my stuff or don't, adding a link simply invites abuse.
