Powder or Liquid?

But for the second half of my life, should I switch to powder? It seems like powder would present storage and dispensing issues.

Isn't powder a more concentrated form of liquid? With liquid you're storing bulkier water weight? I don't know, I use liquid.

I used to used liquid, hell I've even made my own homemade liquid with borax and Castile soap. I never could get over there never being any sudsing. Now I use the pods, couldn't be any easier. I still have to use a dryer sheet though, everything is too staticy without.

I made my own too (in liquid form- watching the mixture set-up was fascinating), grated the soap, borax, and washing soda. The problem I had was no scent, everything just had a natural human skin smell. I tried adding essential oils but nothing smelled right.

A few years ago on a fragrance forum I visit occasionally, some euros were talking about "soap berries". They actually toss some kind of dried berries in a washing machine tea bags. I've never tried it.

It might sound snobbish, but I recommend using whatever your cleaning woman chooses to use for your laundry, and if the clothes aren't to your liking get a new cleaning woman.

After I ruined some rather high-end clothes, I've become somewhat of a laundry expert to avoid repeat catastrophes.

I've got an HE steam washer, and I have 3 laundry detergents on the rack above it:

  • All (General Purpose)
  • Woolite Dark (for Black/Navy cotton)
  • Woolite (for sweaters)

All liquids.

I use Bounce dryer sheets. I love the "refresh" cycle on my dryer.

This is why I do my own washing. After a few disasters, I would rather feel grumpy with me than anyone else. :).

I did not know there was a woolite dark. I use an alternative brand often, to woolite.

I am also not scared to machine was stuff like cashmere. ( my machine has a handwash cycle, but I am happy to do stuff on woollens too) I try to minimise dry cleaning. I'm pretty brave about what I will try washing in respect of fabrics.

You are much, much braver than I am. I have my cashmere sweaters professionally laundered....just a bit too risky for me.

I bought a bunch of linen casual shirts this summer, I always have them professionally laundered and starched too, they look so much better. (I have many talents, ironing is not one).

I didn't know Woolite Dark existed either, I got some selvage jeans earlier this year that "strongly recommended" using Woolite Dark. (Walmart of all places sells it!). I didn't want them to fade so I bought a little jug.

Okay, here's a laundry tip I found interesting:

You can cut down the amount of lint in your dryer trap by about half but doing one small thing: zipping up your jeans before putting them in the dryer.

When your jeans are unzipped, the metal teeth of the zipper continually rake over your drying clothes, making thousands of little tiny tears in the fabrics and increasing the amount of lint.

I'd of thought a rich guy like you would use a service.

He does...just not for laundry

as far as laundry...I have no idea what she uses...I think I saw pods cause she has them new fangled upright machines that don't use much water but cost a bundle to buy
