“Proof beyond reasonable doubt is proof that leaves the court firmly convinced,” Camacho said.

He noted that the case involved a couple having an argument, and at some point the wife escalated the situation by, according to her, slapping her husband as they walked home from a party.

Camacho said in this case, the wife was the aggressor and in her own words, ran outside not that she needed help but because she wanted to get her husband in trouble.

Camacho said he does not tolerate domestic violence, but self-defense requires enough force to repel an attack.

“Self-defense must not exceed the force necessary to stop an attack, and most certainly, self-defense must not turn into an excuse to beat the person beyond what is necessary to stop the attack,’ Camacho said.
