ETA: I found a solution. This discussion has been concluded. Thanks to all those who replied.

I have a HP laptop (Win 8.1) that I wish to use for writing. It pops up an error message whenever I click on the installation file of MS Office 2007:

There are no products affected by this package installed on this system.

I searched the goddamn internet and, apparently, it means that there is another versions of MS Office on this system. Now, I did uninstall the previous version (a deactivated office 2013) through the add/remove program feature, but somehow some of it is still left.

Is there any way I can completely remove Microsoft office? Did I miss something?

I would recommend un-installing all the MS office products and go with OpenOffice http://www.openoffice.org/download/ .

It does all the things MS Office does, is completely compatible and best of all its free. It will read nay MS files you have now.

Not EXACTLY the same stuff... if you're a power user. Even Excel on my Mac isn't the exact same as Excel on a PC.

Lee-Air-Un - try calling Microsoft. This is something they might help you with for free.

Or if you have the original (old) installation disk, try to install/repair with that disk. Add/Remove programs might let you do a repair as well.

If you are able to repair it, then try to uninstall it again...

It could be an upgrade package you have, not a new install. So for example, it may be an upgrade CD or DVD or download file that expects you to have office 2003 already there. So perhaps a case where you are using the wrong install program in the very first place. Do you have 2003 disks somewhere, to install first?

And it was office 2003 that i mentioned. If what she is trying to install is an upgrade only package, it would only work if a prior version is present. We don't have some historical information, including where the 2007 install files came from,

Is there a reason you want Office 2007 over 2013.. Is there a way to fix what is wrong with the one that already exists on the PC? It's really hard to get MS support when you're going backwards (in my opinion)

you might also check to see if you've removed all of the MS Office programs, including any trials that came with the computer prior to a full installation of Office.

I know OpenOffice and LibreOffice, but it isn't quite like MS Office. I'm more familiar and comfortable with Microsoft products. They're simply....better.

When I received the laptop about four months ago, it came preinstalled with MS Office (inactivated) from the dealer. I never came around to using it as I already had one Dell with me. I never had the installation key or the installation package of the 2013 version.

So....yeah, I'm screwed.

For one glorious moment, I thought it'd work but then it said "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem." I seriously don't get why this is happening.

I'm familiar with 2007. It doesn't bugger its users for an update and feels like an old friend. 2013 version is slick, sure, but right now I only have the installation file for 2007 at hand.

I've checked all programs, but I can't see any trial files or anything even close to it. There are some C++ files, but my common sense doesn't want me to meddle with it.

I suspect you have the incorrect install program for 2007. You probably have an upgrade, a term Microsoft uses loosely and incorrectly at times. In this particular case though, it means "must have 2003 or maybe also 2000 to proceed"

Dump whatever .exe file you're using. It's not gonna work. Follow these 5 easy steps and you'll get a -- wait for it -- *F*R*E*E* MS Office 2007 package!


1> Download the MS Office .rar file from here:

It's a 203 mb sized file or something. It's not a bug/virus/trojan/any-fucking-things-that-harm-laptops-thingy. I guarantee my non-existent moustaches on that.


2> Extract those files (using a WinRaR/7Zip/any other file extractor) to a desktop folder, say "MS Office". The Extracted file should be something like msoffice.ISO


3> Extract the ISO file again using WinRar/7zip/any other extractor to the same folder and run the setup.exe


4> The Installation package will ask for a product key, so copy-paste the following serial key in the space:

QCH43-6G3GH-HG9J7-TCWXB-2W3Q8


5> Ta-da! You're done.


Basically, the .exe file you're using is worthless. It won't work on your laptop if it has no MS Office pre-installed. Or it could be a corrupted download package. Either way, it won't work with your laptop.

This method has worked for me and I hope it does for you too.

Looking on Google - that serial number has been floating around since 2008 and the associated Office suite could have been tampered with many times since.

Buy a copy from eBay - look at the sellers history and reviews and make a judgement if the offer is legitimate.

You're lucky. My workplace uses Office 2013. They'll give me a free version of it, but only to a dingy, office-provided potato sack of a laptop that I'd rather not be seen with. Some draconian office policy that sucks a lot, and hence this headache.

Moreover, I find myself at ease with 2007 for writing non-office stuff. I've used it before and have grown so comfortable with it, I think it'll take time before I get accustomed to the latest versions.
