I plastered my turkey with butter, first before going in the oven. Then halfway through the cooking process. The damn thing came out perfect. Jennifer said it was the best turkey she had ever had and she is not easy to please.
 
I used olive oil. Brined in lieu of basting. Smoked for 2 hrs at 325 - 340. Quite a tasty bird.
