There are more refugees in the world now than since WW2. WW2 DPs came from western Europe. This time around they come from the ME. Where ever the shit is hitting the fan is where you get refugees and immigrants from. Canada got boatloads (literally called them Boat People) after Vietnam. Before you knew it every corner convenience store in the country was owned by an Asian family. Huge Dutch influx after WW2. Half the people I knew were 1st or 2nd gen Dutch in my rural area. You want Dutch Christian Immigrants to America, start a war between France and Germany again. Or SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Nobody I know thought we could 25k Syrians in before Christmas. That was just an election promise. They get watered down all the time. No way The Canadian government can move that fast. Not a newly elected one. They could plan it ahead of time and surprise us but not whip up the procedures and get people in place just after taking power.
This guy is Pierre Trudeau's son. He is no political rookie.

The sheer numbers to be resettled, despite the good will and the significant government resources the Liberals were committing to the process, made their own self-imposed deadline all but impossible to meet.
