Stuff

Awww...that is very cool! I've seen some stuff about repaints. Noel Cruz is the most popular I've seen. Holy crap talent.

It's weird when you get into the hyper-sexualization discussion because I do know little kids dream of growing up.

But it's nice that adults dream of kids staying kids.

I really think Brats dolls are hideous. I've been looking at toys for my daughter for Christmas and the dolls are all ugh. Then I remembered Tree Change. (My daughter assures me that at 12 she is not too old for toys.)

Christmas shopping is fun when it's not last minute.

I dunno. I feel people should be able to dress or wear makeup however they wish, drag queen or girl or whatever. Maybe that's it, they kinda look like drag queens to me and my usual response is "You go, girl."

I see it more as expression and in a feminist sense I think "Wear whatever the hell you want."

If I could blend like that and had the patience...

But I don't.

I don't wear much makeup. I learned how in the theater, and I think if a person has a changed view of the person underneath because of makeup, that's a terribly not so bright person. So yeah, I see clothes and makeup as costuming.

I think women have a tad of PTSD socially from being told what was or was not socially acceptable and if some ladies (and gentlemen) want to be crude about it to bust up or subvert or even go with some ideas on the subject...that's their choice. As long as nobody's forcibly putting it on or taking it off and that's how you WANT to look...then good for you. Express yourself.

I hope you find something good for her! Usually I just ask people very specifically what they want and get that. My son with autism is not all that flexible on the subject.

I found you! In a fit of annoyance, rage, and sadness, I gave up Lit for a bit and unsubscribed to everything and took a break - but your thread finally popped back up.

I have missed the randomness of your world.

I have nothing to add about make-up as I have pretty much stopped wearing it. I quit caring. ;)

I missed you! So glad you're back! Sorry about the fit thing, that sucks.

I mostly don't, but I go in spurts of wanting to wear it and being sad that every mascara stings my eyes.

Eh, health drama (because 2015 hasn't been shitty enough). I'll survive.

That sucks about mascara - that's my "dressing up" right now. I like makeup. I'm sure I'll start wearing it again one day when I know I can make it a week without crying. For now it's just a waste of money though.

Oh...health drama...so sorry.

Yeah, I have bought all the mascaras that say they won't make me cry...but they are lying liars who lie.

Extemporaneous fashion poetry!

raku pottery! saw it last night being made on a programme - some of it comes alive!http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=raku+pottery&FORM=HDRSC2

and from wki:
Western raku techniques

Raku became popular with American potters in the late 1950s with the help of Paul Soldner. Americans kept the general firing process, that is, heating the pottery quickly to high temperatures and cooling it quickly, but continued to form their own unique style of raku.

It is raku’s unpredictable results and intense color that attract modern potters. These patterns and color result from the harsh cooling process and the amount of oxygen that is allowed to reach the pottery. Depending on what effect the artist wants, the pottery is either instantly cooled in water, cooled slowly in the open air, or placed in a barrel filled with combustible material, such as newspaper, covered, and allowed to smoke.[6] Water immediately cools the pottery, stopping the chemical reactions of the glaze and fixing the colors. The combustible material results in smoke, which stains the unglazed portions of the pottery black. The amount of oxygen that is allowed during the firing and cooling process affects the resulting color of the glaze and the amount of crackle.

Unlike traditional Japanese raku, which is mainly hand built bowls of modest design, western raku tends to be vibrant in color, and comes in many shapes and sizes. Western raku can be anything from an elegant vase, to an eccentric abstract sculpture. Although some do hand build, most western potters use throwing wheels while creating their raku piece. Western culture has even created a new sub branch of raku called horse hair raku. These pieces are often white with squiggly black lines and smoke-like smudges. These effects are created by placing horse hair, feathers, or even sugar on the pottery as it is removed from the kiln and still extremely hot.

Amen. I've made two really big purchases at really good prices for Christmas this year.

Hell, I've just managed to start maybe sorta planning for Thanksgiving.

My daughter's in Indonesia, I'm planning on...Paypal cash?

Gustav Klimt Brought to Life by Photographer Inge Prader

Austrian photographer Inge Prader recently recreated Gustav Klimt’s masterworks for Style Bible, a part of the Life Ball Charity Event in Vienna, Austria. A team of over 50 professionals worked on the demanding photography project which raises funds to help those with HIV/AIDS. Makeup artists, costume designers, set designers, lighting specialists and many others worked with models and fully ornamented props to bring to life the fascinating, erotically charged work that Klimt is known for during his “Golden Phase.”

I  tumblr and the internet in general for this kinda stuff.

+++++

holy fuck you guys

after years of being vaguely confused when I came across the measurement “a stick of butter” in recipes, today I learned that in the United States they sell butter in these skinny stick things:

https://41.media.tumblr.com/52921e4e297f710d94f8e8fa069a359f/tumblr_inline_npgmts6X6L1qhqb9q_540.jpg

it is literally a stick of butter. A STICK OF BUTTER.

i have literally never seen butter sold this way. each stick one only amounts to ½ a cup of butter AMERICANS PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT MY WHOLE LIFE WHEN I SAW THE PHRASE “A STICK OF BUTTER” IN RECIPES I WAS IMAGINING THIS:

https://40.media.tumblr.com/350e02351feba5deff0b9b5149ffda16/tumblr_inline_npgn39DgFs1qhqb9q_540.jpg

THIS IS THE ONLY “STICK” I’D EVER SEEN BUTTER SOLD IN. I THOUGHT Y’ALL WERE THROWING FUCKIN’ POUNDS UPON POUNDS OF BUTTER INTO THINGS HOLY JESUS THE WORLD MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE NOW FUCKIN CHRIST.

Oh.....so I've been cooking with butter wrong this whole time???? (Kidding.)

Yeah, other than that I've got nothing. Happy Friday? Although I'm unemployed now so they are all the same to me.... 2015 suckfest continues. I'll enjoy my pithy severance and collect unemployment until I find something else (which I already have ONE interview lined up). I'm telling you, I ever get a kidney stone again I will just let that fucker pass on its own and I don't CARE if they say it has to be surgically removed. Two months later I've had blood clots in my arm from "trauma from the IV", hospital-acquired MRSA that won't go away (basically septic thrombophlebitis) and missed a lot of work so finally was told "it's not working" and was "let go." Coincidentally, this was the day AFTER I had to request a long lunch for another doctor's appointment but said I would flex my time to make up the hours.

Oh well. I'm on the mend. This round of antibiotics is working and the blood clots are gone finally. And why would I want to work for a company who will dump you the moment you get sick?
