I for one, am sick, sick, sick! Of these radical islamic pieces of shit killing, maiming, raping, murdering and bombing everything that they think will get them 72 virgins. All my life, Islam has been a pain in our ass, from Iran in the 80s till now. It's nonstop! All you hear now from the Obama administration is pat them on the ass, drop a few bombs and scream that we are not at war with islam. BULLSHIT! Americans are becoming so fucking pacifist that it makes me sick!
The only solution to this crisis is to create alliances with European nations. England, France, Germany, then eygypt, Israel and whoever else has felt the pain from islam and attack it like we did the beaches of Normandy in WWII. Soldiers, tanks, aircraft, naval warships, bombers and if needed, atomic weopons. These assholes do not abide by the Geneva convention, so why should we? Fuck em, let's get chemical weopons, biological warfare, whatever it takes to exterminate this problem of rodents. March soldiers elbow to elbow and a hundred deep and march from palistine to iraq, iran and into Africa wherever there is a cell of radicals and kill them all. When we have to stop in the desert, use their rotting and smoldering corpses to fill the hescos. Kill them all! Use a little counter terrorism to cause them so much fear that they run and beg for mercy and surrender... then put a 556 between thier eyes just for sport... fuck em!

I think President Obama put it well yesterday--pretty much everything being mentioned that we should do, we're doing already--short of the really bad mistakes that were tried before and that got us into this mess. (What part of putting a coalition of other countries together have you missed, by the way?) He invited the Republican candidates to define their strategies so we can consider giving them a whirl. The silence is deafening so far. That's because there isn't a single Republican candidate for president who has a clue about the Middle East, foreign policy, or military strategy.

When you take this back to Iran--presumably the fall of the shah--as you do, you cover a whole lot of presidents from both parties who have been working this. And what I've heard the inexperienced Republican candidates say we should be doing, two Republican presidents already did--getting us into the mess we're in today.

I will say, since I worked this issue within the government from the time of the embassy hostage crisis in Iran to the second Gulf war, that one Republican president had what I think was the best approach (but didn't keep to it, which started the unraveling), and that was George Bush Sr., whose administration did what it could to keep Iran and Iraq at each others' throats so that they exhausted themselves inside the region and pretty much left the rest of us alone--we supplied both sides (which provided those WMDs that we went looking for even though we knew some of the them had been used, some sold to other countries, and the rest deteriorated in the desert before we went looking for them).

Now, if we could manage that again . . .

And I think the answer to the Syrian refugee problem is to blast the current Syrian regime out of the water (and the ISIS center along with it) so that the refugees can go home. At one time we solved these problems by buying off the leader needing to be replaced and ending up with a single refugee--the departing leader to the Riviera. Too bad we don't seem to be able to do that anymore. If the Republicans had been smart at the time, they probably could have pulled that off with Saddam Hussein (the problem being that everyone lower than him in the leader list was just as bad as he was).

The unraveling started with the fall of the shah in January, 1979, and it's true that a Democrat, Carter, was president then--but the real problem is that the U.S. government had no backup plan to the shah, no "what to do if," and the two administrations before Carter, when these plans should have been formulated, were Republican administrations.

As for the fall of the Shah, it didn't help that the US and the UK were involved in the coup to oust a democratically elected president and restore power to the Shah.
Also, if Carter hadn't let the Shah in to the US (which I thought at the time was a really stupid move given events in Iran) things likely wouldn't have been as bad for the US.

It should be noted that "bomb the shit outta them" is what we've been doing. So in a very major way Trump, Clinton, and Obama all have the same plan.

First, and this is the most important point is that we're assuming there's no diplomatic solution to this problem. Meaning simply we don't recognize them as a sovereign entity and as nothing more than a lunatic terrorist organization.

Ok so with that out of the way the question isn't "How do we defeat ISIS?" We know the answer to that one. Either a U.S. led -or some coalition of the willing (Bush quote!)- military invasion of the area. Huge amounts of troops, material, money, and of course time. Literally at least a dozen years. That's the easy part.

The actual question is: Are we (the U.S. and allies) willing to go through with it? And the answer to that is obvious --no (at least for now).
