Ronda Rousey

3b0b has seen it all before. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. All praise due to the light shower, 3b0b.

I don't know a whole hell of a lot about UFC, but if your opponent is taller AND has actual boxing experience, why the hell would you try to box with her?

Rousey's people had been openly talking up her inevitable transition into action movies. I guess that could still happen, but if everyone's most recent image of you is bleeding and KTFO in an octagon, you make for an iffy heroine.

Sometimes you have to do that until you can get to a setup.

This time, she was just up against superior kick-boxing skills.

I just read she was a bad sport about the loss, didn't touch gloves.... :(

That's really disappointing to hear.

The non-touching of gloves happened before the fight. Afterwards she was somewhat ... non-responsive.

It was just gamesmanship in an attempt to show who's boss, but it also seems likely that she maybe didn't take this fight very seriously.

And she started shit during the weigh-in and was talking about her movie plans after her win.

Plus, rumor is she started dating. She might be able to use losing focus as an excuse, but from the accounts I have read this morning, she just got her ass kicked from the get-go...

Pride goeth before a fall. :) As a gambler, I viewed her as a serious underlay in this fight. There's a reason people who bet big on heavy favorites are called bridge jumpers by knowledgeable gamblers.

I cannot say, in all honesty, I don't gamble.

I don't do games of chance or sporting events, but I do invest.

:D ;) ;)

So you're one of those people who prefer the stock market over other forms of gambling? ;)

When the Fed is concerned about "managing" inflation and engaging in ZIRP, one must gamble.

;)

I did pretty good during this run-up pulling out north of 18K.

All I can do now is hope the inflation is actually "managed" to a reasonable percentage, but I kind of doubt it.

Remember when you swore an oath on your Sacred Marine Honor that you'd pulled all your money out of the stock market the day that Barack Obama was inaugurated in 2009? You said you put it all into precious metals and Glen Beck's "Freedom Seeds", in preparation for the upcomin' economic Holocaust?

....and then in 2014 you admitted you were just jokin' with us, that actually you'd made a shit-ton of money in the market and once again timed the market so expertly that you got out of it and into cash the day the market hit its peak?

(This is...what?....the third time you've timed the market? Fourth?)

I was wondering if someone had made a thread about Ronda. Did anyone here watch the fight last night? I did. And man, I was absolutely, unequivocally, 110 percent wrong about Holly Holm. I thought she had absolutely zero chance to beat Ronda. I was quite wrong, clearly.

Holly showed that yes, her stand-up really is that good and that Ronda still has a ways to go in that area. I think Holm also showed what can happen if you are truly not intimidated by your opponent. In her first two fights, I thought Holm looked nervous and timid. But she wasn't scared of Ronda at all. You could tell that at the weigh-ins when she got in Ronda's face. I think it's also fair to wonder if the spotlight was getting to Ronda a little bit. She didn't look as healthy at the weigh-ins and the way she reacted during the stand-off with Holm was very telling.

Ronda was subject to a lot of scrutiny leading up to this fight (being accused of domestic violence for beating up an ex-boyfriend, dating a fighter who he himself was accused of domestic violence while she railed against proven woman beater and scumbag Floyd Mayweather, all of the media demands placed on her, "Lubegate," etc.) and it may be fair to wonder if that had some effect. But it shouldn't take away from Holm's victory. She exposed Ronda's weaknesses in the stand-up game.

But people who think Ronda losing is awful for the UFC are sorely mistaken. This is the best thing that could have happpened to them. Dana White is happier than anyone else, even if he looked crestfallen at the postfight press conference last night. Now he has another fight in the new year that tons of people are going to want to see. The promotion for Holm/Ronda 2 will sell the fight itself. All Dana has to do is sit back and watch the dough pour in.

And if Holm beats Ronda again, guess what? UFC has a new star to promote. Holly Holm, "The Ronda Slayer." It's really a win-win for everyone involved. Ronda said she wanted to quit fighting by age 30 anyway. She should still have movie roles waiting for her if she were to lose to Holm again. But if not, then she receives a harsh lesson in celebrity. People love to build you up, but they just as easily love to tear you down. Hopefully she's saved some of her money. Dana White only cares about you for as long as you can make him money anyway. Once you can't do that anymore, he has no problem moving on to someone else.

But either way, I think Ronda will be fine. And UFC will be fine. I'm not sure where think ranks in the all-time upsets, but a lot of people are comparing this to when Mike Tyson lost to Buster Douglas. I think Tyson was a bigger favorite than Ronda was, but this was a pretty significant upset last night. I read that some guy put $10,000 on Holm to win. So now that guy gets to go home with a cool $700,000 in his pocket.

As hot as she is, the obvious male dilemma is "how do you rough fuck a chick you know can kick your ass down the block faster than you could drive there"? How does your brain make that fantasy believable?

Of course for a male sub, "life" probably couldn't get any better. :D

My feelings exactly. She scares me. I'm afraid if I do something wrong, she'll kick my ass.

Shades of Tyson dropping to Buster Douglas. You can only be on top for so long before you buy into the hype you can't lose.

THis will give her her focus back and of course a huge purse for a rematch.

Not really. Buster was 40-1, Holm was 20-1. But hey, you almost got it right!

I'm sure she's made millions in marketing. Why not?

Good lookin gal.

She might just retire...

Is that what Good Ole Sensei K taught you back in the day at the Kobra Kai ladyboy dojo?

"Fight until you lose one contest! Then retire! HAI!"

She'll make more money in a rematch than you will make in a career.
