To the Veterans

Interesting combination, an infantry lanyard with a Spec-4 on the sleeve.

I thought all you combat arms infantrymen got hard stripes? Particularly you "deployed" guys...

Why you no corporal?

This is why you should not think.

I went from, E-4 Spec to Sgt. once I made team leader. If you are not in a leadership position than you are Spec-4. Every now and then a Spec-4 will be "promoted" to Corporal when they become a Team Leader or have the points to make E-5 but not the school. But it is rare for a none E-5 to be a Team leader in today's army. Years ago yes....Corporals were Team Leaders.

A long ago time (1970) far, far away........

The biggest difference I see between Veterans Days of today and yesterday is the pitiful number of veterans who solicit acknowledgement of their service, who actually broadcast it so as to be seen, who actually expect to be thanked and who are disappointed, even angry sometimes, if/when they're not.

This Day, as so much of all life in the USSA today, has turned almost completely political: vets wanting to be acknowledged pimping their service like politicians pimping their achievements to be elected, and honest, sincere, reverent acknowledgement of military service being tempered by which side of the political fence a bozo chooses to squat upon.

How many right wingers here, e.g., who ordinarily post the most vile things about him, would sincerely thank Jimmy Carter for his service, and how many lefties give heartfelt thanks today to George W. Bush for his?

Natural humility and modest servitude have greatly vanished from within the borders of this once great land, replaced with just more and more lemmings tripping all over one another to collect what they deem their deserved pat on the back.

give heartfelt thanks today to George W. Bush for his?.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush_military_service_controversy

In September 2004, Lawrence Korb, an Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Ronald Reagan, after reviewing the payroll records for Bush's last two years of service, concluded that they indicated that Bush did not fulfill his obligations and could have been ordered to active duty as a result.[44]

Surely you could have come up with a better example than that coke head son of a rich man dodging active service in Nam.

Funny, I don't see men of my age and younger wearing their VFW hats and foreign campaign ribbons wherever we go. In fact, would it not only be easy to argue that you are wrong, but bat ass backwards as well. I wouldn't go that far, as when my generation is old and grey maybe we will wear our hats, march in parades, and tell our stories to anyone who will listen. I suspect for now we are all busy with life and trying to forget our time in.

Ever stop and think you are just a old bitter ass man? Fact is the world is no more no less fucked today then when you use to be relevant. Then again, maybe you have always been this sad fuck you are today.

I'll take your word for it....I just don't recall ever seeing a Speedy-4 with an infantry lanyard. And honestly, I had forgotten enlisted could wear bow ties with Class A for "formal" events.

A Specialist today is pretty much anyone between PFC and Cpl. or Sgt. Doesn't really matter much what they do. Used to be a lot different but they phased out all the other Specs and you just don't see that many Corporals.

Just one loyal American BusyBody would not hesitate to ban from wearing the uniform and actually advocates being put to death as a "precautionary measure."

Or maybe you are thinking Marines. Like their equipment their ranks are 30 years behind the time.

But no need to take my word for it. It's easy research. While you can't throw a rock in the infantry without hitting the specialist mafia ( most common rank in the army I would guess) corporals are few and far between.

Spec4 in the Marines would be a Lance Corporal.

Now go pat the waiting VatAss on the back, canvck.

Tell me about it, frat boy.

A joke made in a veterans thread on Veterans Day proves your point somehow? All while you ignore my actually valid points???

BWHAaaaa!!!

Please tell me you are shaking your frail fists at the computer right now!!

All while you ignore my actually subjectively emotional points???

Fyp, frat boy.

BTW: exactly why is it that my post, which named no one in particular, automatically happened to immediately find so much butthurt bingo in your wannabe azz?

Amazing. You actually made decent points and called out eeyore properly.

Old guys wear them for the camaraderie of being the few left alive and to at least pass on the fact it happened to grandkids. And remind politicians.

Although if every veteran of combat stood up and publically declared their abhorrence of war I doubt politicos could muster ANY support for a war. Unfortunately there is always the other guy on the other side of whatever who would take advantage of that. And so as much as it is a dream that an armed forces could be a disaster relief team more than a SEAL team. The reality is somewhere someone will take advantage of someone maybe not even us/you/I for trying to be peaceful or hating them because they are different.

Just as you can not just walk away as some little old lady or child is being beaten in an alley, you could end up in a fight. Humans do suck ass sometimes.

Technically we are bigger than you. Maybe more girth. Most girls prefer girth over length and quality over quantity.

You mean instead of expecting to be patted on the back for intentionally volunteering to be part of the USSA's perpetually unconstitutional war machine, and boasting of it to boot?

It's that ridiculous dependence on "we" that makes you no different than any lemming anywhere else.

Your insistence on "I" is the capitol letter in Idiot. Most numerous letter too. There is no I in team. It does occur in liberal society though.
