I read it as a wife engaging in infidelity (or being pulled back from the attraction of) it for a reason that is still loving toward the husband. The wife somehow has to be loving for the category title to be valid.
The Green E one, as I recall, is a disabled professor who has a young wife and is all strung up about keeping her happy even though he can't do her and pushes her into an affair (which can provide good sex scenes), with her going along with it to keep him happy even though she doesn't consider it necessary.
Another one that I've just published is a Rhine cruise where a dying man who was gay but married for someone to take care of him (which she's done lovingly), hires a gigolo to do her to encourage her just not to be an empty widow, having devoted her whole life to him, when he dies. (The gigolo winds up doing them both--the dying man as a last present; the wife as a "loosen up and live now").
It could also mean a straight "she's good to her man" story, which would be a loving wife, but most plots I can think for that have no sexual tension (not saying that one couldn't be devised--my muse just hasn't dropped one yet).
To see how I handle it, you could go look at my file. Don't worry, the stories won't bite. Sure must of my stories in this account are GM, but there still are over a 100 straight ones there (which is more than most posting to Lit. have in their file altogether). I posted a straight first time one today that dredged up an old memory of mine (but pushed the envelope on it).
Well, you are entitled to your opinion of course, but it feels to me like your definition is very narrow and I think you completely missed the ironic / double entendre element of "Loving" in "Loving Wives." But that is just my opinion.
Fair enough. I honestly didn't mean my reply as an attack, if you saw it that way, I apologize. I've had good results in LW myself and I like the category. Maybe I'm just feeling defensive with the current spat of what I view as attacks against the category. That's fine with me. I don't write in relation to what anyone else is writing--nor really care enough about it to be concerned what the definitions of others are (or to tell them their definitions are too narrow). You're the one who asked. Someone asked who got good results from it. I answered that I had at least once--from the one who set the category up to begin with.

Seems like maybe I need a timeout, and a beer or ten.![]()

Not just yours. I think a lot of regular LW readers would say the same thing. In fact, I always thought it was the ironic element that was the most important one. Stories where a woman fools around with the husband's permission are pretty dull. Something bad has to happen to make it interesting.
I don't care for BTB stories and I avoid them. Really, there's only a few writers who do the really hardcore BTB that many here claim is the LW hallmark.

BTB is most likely not the statistical hallmark, but as someone else said, the "Yeah burn that bitch" commentators are the most vile and and get the most attention. They also don't just show up in BTB stories they show up in other stories with the "If I were so and so I would have... and turn the comments section into mini BTB stories all their own.
Its the story of the net, the nasty few magnify their voices the most.
You're right. BTB commenters practically explode at the mention of reconciliation in a non-BTB story.
And there's at least one AUTHOR who writes and posts alternate endings for non-BTB stories, and usually gives them BTB outcomes. I don't know if the original authors give him permission or not. His screen name is something like Finish the Damn Story. That might even be it.
But the First Amendment is a wonderful thing. It allows people like that to voice their opinion without anyone being compelled to listen.
Ultimately, "No bitches were actually burned in the writing of this story".
Maybe a little reflection on your signature line would help.

I mentioned the author FinishtheDamnStory, and thought I'd provide a little information.
Here's his story list at Lit. 58 stories. At a glance, well written (he's a good speller and uses commas and stuff). Lots of red H's.

He gives credit to the original author and gets permission. He describes how he picks a story for one of his sequels.
Totally on the up and up as a writer. He's definitely revenge/BTB oriented, but he's no slobbering idiot BTB commenter. Turns out I read a few years ago and found them distasteful, but only because we disagree on the level of revenge for cheating.
Also I never read alternative endings, even if the original author writes one.
Anyway, FTDS is fair and respectful of the authors, so I didn't want to leave the thought that I was attacking him in any way.

THE READERS WANT YOU TO GO AWAY AND QUIT POSTING. NO MORE, YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE RUNNING FOR THE WORST AND MOST DISGUSTING WRITER ON HERE.
Fan mail. Why do they read it. Parson Lovecraft? Is this your doing?

With all the interactive comments, this is as much performance art as storytelling.
What happened to all your other noire stuff? I think it was under JBJ, but I can't find any of it now. I was out of town for a couple of months when there was some sort of AH purge and I might have missed some of your alts.

Its all in storage for re-write and re-use.
The reaction to HAZARDOUS WASTE makes me think I need to go with an uber sociopath every reader hates. A killer pols hire to assassinate hackers and whistle blowers and disruptive blacks.
Eh. I did a well written sociopath who targeted women and ended up about as evil as an individual can be. If your theory held, it should have been major attention bait, but it barely averages above 4.5, and not many comments.
Mind you readers don't look to my stuff for those kinds of characters. It's a deliberate outlier. But I don't think sociopaths are all that compelling.
My best readers come from AH, and all are named anonymous.
Not all. I've admitted to reading your stuff when you were still posting as that other guy. "Hazardous Waste" was beneficial to me. I had sampled a couple of Erotic Poems and needed to bleach them from my brain.
