I don't wanna do it but its gotta be done.

Here's the problem.

A female cat kinda sorta hangs out here and has litters of kittens about 3 times a year. Its a safe place and I keep her and them fed. One of the kittens from her first litter returned and moved in. I call him SCARFACE because he has an odd bit of white on his black face. SCAR is male.

With me so far?

SCARs daddy is a feral cat who lives in the swamp behind the house. Daddy hates SCAR and tries to kill SCAR. Daddy gets inside occasionally and hell breaks out.

Mama cast had a litter a while back. 4 kittens. All looked good till recently. Two of them vanished. I suspect daddy killed the two that vanished. So now I'm thinking about shooting daddy with my shotgun.

Feral cats are open for humane killing if you can't afford to capture and neuter them. They are a menace to songbirds and all sorts of native creatures.

Just try to be quick and humane about it.

They mostly eat voles. Birds are tough to bring down, but I've seen it done. But I can see your point. One can never have enough voles.

There are cats around here that the coyotes won't even fuck with.

Coyotes are new around here (SW Ontario). Thought to be a hybrid between western coyotes and eastern wolves. Any area of London, Ontario that has coyotes has no stray dogs or cats. The Thames river makes an excellent corridor for deer and coyotes to move through the city.

You do have to be careful when walking small dogs (coyote lunches) in wooded areas in the city at dusk. The couple of hundred acres of the Westminster Ponds ESA right in the city is teeming with deer and coyotes. Unfortunately turkeys within the area are no more. Coyotes don't seem to be impacting turkey populations negatively just outside of town though. Wild turkeys are all over the southern part of the province now.
