There is no age or size per se; women should stop wearing stockings (and garters and such) when they--or their true friends--think they no longer look good in them.
That having been said, I've seen many women walking around in styles and hairdos that are clearly age-inappropriate, i. e., too young. Nothing makes you look aged and desperate like dressing the same as your teenage daughter. (Unless you can pull it off, of course, but how many can?)

I have no idea why you are talking about hitting women. A friend said that she thought she was too old to wear stockings. I'd never thought they were age specific wear, so I thought I would ask others....

When entering into these types of discussions I generally assume that the person I'm dealing with knows absolutely nothing.
