The statistics along with the results of the interviews you've mentioned are ignored by the anti-gunners and the media that supports them. The anti-gunners imagine a Utopia after the government has swooped in and removed all firearms from the hands of the citizenry.

No one is talking about that apart from you to set up a strawman. The issue is how to prevent firearms falling in to the hands of criminals and the mentally unstable. The obvious way is to limit the number of gun in circulation and force responsibility upon those who sell/own them.

But looking at those nations that have banned virtually all gun ownership you find that although murder by firearm did decrease, other forms of crime, especially burglary, robbery, assault, and rape, increased dramatically.

Cite? Which ones where?

The International Crime Victimization Survey has consistently placed the US near the bottom of the list of industrialized nations when it comes to the citizen being the victim of crime. The UK has consistently been in one of the top three spots on the list.

That depends which crimes we are talking about here and how the crimes are recorded, all the stats that I’ve seen for crimes against the person the US is no better off than any other nation and in most cases substantially worse.

Our, the US's, national disgrace is the Black on Black crime rates for all categories of crime. Blacks commit 54% of all murders while only representing 13% of the population. Latino's are not broken out as a group in the FBI's UCR (they are lumped in with the 'Whites), but informal surveys tend to indicate that they are responsible for approx. 40% of the murders. In this state, New Mexico, they are responsible for almost 90% of ALL crime yet are just over 50% of the population.

So what and what relevance does this have?

Subtracting out the Black on Black crime rates as well as the Latino crime rates the US's overall crime rate, murder in particular, drops dramatically. Of course that sort of expectation is out of the question. But if those groups were to commit criminal acts merely in proportion to their proportion of the population the decrease in crime would still be dramatic.

Great idea, that’s relevant….indeed why stop there, if we subtract out all murders committed by someone in possession of a firearm, it’s surprising to note, your figures look much better yet, and more akin to those of other westernized nations rather than the 3rd world nations that they currently are.

The apologists for those groups, including our current president, blame the past (slavery) and discrimination for the out of proportion criminal behavior. That is a MYTH! If that were true the statistics would reveal an off the charts proportion of the criminal acts would be perpetrated against the alleged oppressing class, whites. That is obviously not the case, they prey on each other, not the alleged oppressor. The fact that they DO prey on each other tends to indicate that there is a cultural malaise within their communities.

No one is (actively) "talking" about it because it is a non-starter in America. Hillary in a nod to the antigun nuts who actually do want such things recently said that an Australian style registration, ban and confiscation was "worth considering"

Never mind that if such a thing had a snowballs chance in hell of being enacted, in order to be as modestly successful as the Aussie ban which got a mere 20% of guns out of circulation, you would have to pick up (and pay for ) 60 million guns.

So lets say you did that. That leaves 240 million plus guns left. None of the 60 million <registered> guns picked up in such a scheme will have been registered by criminals forbidden already to have them.

You still have the worlds largest mass of privately held guns by a huge margin, so what, exactly has that accomplished? Nothing.

Anything short of that is a complete waste of time. Nothing you can possibly propose sort of 100% ban and house to house sweeps will make a dent into the availability of guns. It is all hot air designed to appease the left and to irritate the fuck out of the right who tend to be gun owners. Nothing more.
