The Progressive-Socialist Response:

Clearly we see the need for common-sense car control. Do not blame the driver. Do not blame the substance abuse. People don't kill people, cars kill people. We have too many cars and too much easy access to them. We need stricter regulations to cut down on these tragedies. We need to pay attention to the rest of the world where their citizens are willing to pay for mass transportation in order to eliminate the availability of personal automobiles and save lives.

Uhm...there is common sense car control in many ways. I remember VW tumbled over one thing.

VW was beset by unreasonable and uncommon sense regulations imposed from above by unelected bureaucrats...

All they did was try to pass on some common-sense savings to their customers.

;)

One another note, why is the hand-wringing world-wide Left not calling for some common sense knife control for their Muslim allies out for a walk one night or wound up on a video and stabbing Jews?

AT THIS POINT, WHAT DOES IT REALLY MATTER?

Ban AAA!!!

Ban AAA!!!
Valid.

After all they are, in essence, just shills for the greedy automobile manufacturers and repair mafia and of course the much hated purveyors of global warming causing petrol: the petrochemical industrial complex.

I'm pretty sure most gun control advocates would be delighted if gun ownership was subject to the same level of regulation as driving.

tee hee

I KNOW! Let cars stay legal! Restrict access to gasoline! We can do that by EPA mandate.

But they didn't have cars in the 1780's for the Founding Fuckwits to potificate about.;)

We don't have that kind of muslims stabbing jews here. They're in Israel, where gun control is much more loose.

No, they wouldn't.

We would have to ban any car capable of traveling over 70 mph, all motorcycles (designed to defeat police vehicles), any car over 10 years old (cheap easily available), sue auto manufacturers every time someone speeds or drives drunk (they should know their product can be misused) and so on.

What is called 'common-sense' is just the same tired old bits being re-cycled in small chunks.

If any of the auto regulation worked, why do we have traffic cops? Traffic court? Accidents? Recalls? It appears to me that people follow laws when the authorities are watching and disregard them when they think they can.

48 years ago I set sail to become a psychologist. Circa Fall 1967 these jewels were true: Fagology was a medical disorder, mothers caused schizophrenia, sugar caused hyperactivity, and everyone had neuroses that don't exist today.

From the REACH OUT AND TOUCH SOMEONE DEPT. Harry Stack Sullivan MD a psychiatrist god for many of us had his orderlies beat patients 'to make human contact' with these folks.

Harry was somewhat intolerant of fagologists but was one himself, it turns out.

REVEALED: the difference between Cars and Guns

Guns are good for shooting holes in things, including people. The natural result of having a hole shot in you is to be seriously injured or die. That is what guns are for. That is the only thing guns are for.

Cars are useful for transporting things, including people, from one place to another. They’re very good at this; you’ve probably used one to get somewhere before without dying.

Occasionally, people die because they are in car crashes. That is when something goes wrong with a car. Someone dies when they are shot by a gun because the gun has functioned correctly. Killing people is what guns are meant to do.

No there isn't.. I can walk into anyplace that sells cars, lay cash on the table and legally walk out 10 minutes later with a car. No questions asked.

That I'd like to see.

Most people drive off with their cars.

Knives require you to get up close 'n personal in order to kill someone. It's very difficult to inflict mass casualties when armed with a knife (which is why our troops stormed Omaha Beach with guns instead of knives).

Guns give a shooter the luxury of killing someone from a distance. Point the gun, pull the trigger. Very little skill involved. Makes it very very easy to kill from a distance. Not so with knives.

Someone should start keeping track of how often you immediately regurgitate the "ban knives! ban cars!" trope after each mass shooting.

Apparently it proves the same dumb RWers will make the same stupid discredited comparisons regardless of facts or common sense.

At least you're consistent

Few crashes are blamed on the car. Most crashes are blamed on the driver.

Yes, we blame the driver using the car for the crash, just as we blame the shooter for using the gun in a shooting.

The point is, cars are not purposely used to crash into things, but guns are routinely used to shoot people.

We don't have a lot of mass stabbings. So not at all the same thing. And apparently you've already been beaten to death on cars.

But they didn't have cars in the 1780's for the Founding Fuckwits to potificate about.;)

They did pontificate on them and I have a right to own a car. See it either A falls under the broad group of universal rights the FF didn't see fit to protect because a government that was restricting 'this' was already too far gone to discuss or b) as plenty of people have pointed out I can kill you with my car. Does that not make it qualify as an arm? Especially if I attach a ram to the front to make it extra deadly?

HA HA  You want to be literal about it fine, otherwise shut up...

It's an important detail. Every time I've bought a car I had to show them my driver's license before they would sell it. And getting my license required me passing a test and having my ID taken. I have to register my car regularly with the government, I can't just give it away without telling uncle sam so they have a reasonable idea where most of the cars in the country are at any given time. Sometimes there are random check points (for DUIs) where they check if I'm licensed to operate the vehicle.

So sure, while I've never tested it you probably could plop down money for a vehicle you couldn't legally operate (though there would be questions asked they just very well might shrug them off.) . They would let someone else transport it for you of course. I'd be curious what exactly the rules are on a guns though, I know there is a background check but what legal obligation does the store owner have if I show up with my friend and my friend is buying a gun but putting it on my credit card?
