Dragon Ball: Forgotten Generations (OOC)

Cool. Mostly cus I realize I was unclear and there is a bit of a gulf between, hi I'm Ryu I can haz fireballs. And hi I'm Frieza, you can no haz planet.

Name: "Lieutenant" Crimson
Race: Augmented human (Cyborg)
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 200 lbs
Hair: Red buzz cut

Personality & History: Crim spent his youth traveling with his father as a military brat and learning to fight directly from members of the military. His father died protecting him when Crim was in his teens inspiring him to join the military. As a result of injuries he sustained in the attack he augmented with the Genesis system that sustains his life.

Unfortunately for everybody involved Crim has a short temper. He did find the man who killed his father and beat him to death getting kicked out of the military in the process. He still refers to himself by his former rank however and makes money entering fighting tournaments.

(He was originally part of a more standard DBZ setting so he was essentially an Android that could train to get more powerful. Which I might add is never proven or even really implied to be false.)

Name: Rugal (Arugula)
Race: Saiyan
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 227
Hair: Black

Personality & History: The Saiyan race wasn't wiped out by Frieza, not even close. What Frieza destroyed and Goku and Vegeta escaped was a planet inhabited by a small band of saiyans who had been exiled from the planet of Saiya deep in the South Galaxy.

Rugal is easy going and playfully. A naturally talented warrior he doesn't find fighting particularly entertaining and that coupled with his general slacker attitue makes him one of the weaker Saiyans. He does love to tinker and spends a lot of time exploring the galaxy.

(The flash backs tell us that Saiyans are not native to planet Vegeta and took it over from a race known as the Truffles. Possibly less than a generation ago. They came from somewhere right? Placing them in the South galaxy means they were outside King Kai's designated area giving a plausible reason why he was unaware of them. The Buu Saga heavily implies that nothing shy of Majin Buu gets Kais giving a shit about other galaxies.)

I'm gonna ignore Cancer, who's basically a Cell Jr that survived since he'd be WAY overpowered for this setting. I've got a few others and can easily cook up something new.

I didn't have an exact number in mind, but I had hoped that it might attract some more attention.

I haven't gotten any other messages except from you guys, so I'm just going to go ahead and start in on the IC.

I don't hang out on the ORP very often is there not a formal way of gathering attention?

Is there still time or space to chime in as a version of Flute?

Sans her trademark flying, of course, as per the current concept.

Name: Flute D'Amour
Age: 4 (chronological); 23 (biological, mental)
Race: Namekian / Human
Height: 5'4"
Hair: Red
Eyes: Blue

Appearance:
Flute has emerald-green skin. Her eyes are softly blue and often expressively wide, which might generally lead folk to accuse her of being vapid. She tends to the wearing of bright primary colors, and bold, fuku-esque outfits.

She is mostly human, though this is hybridized with genetic samples from Namekians. As a result, she has neither the pointed ears nor the elbow ridges common to purebred Namekians. Also, she has ruby-red hair that falls to her shoulders, and her Namekian antennae are retractable at will. Perhaps more glaringly obvious, she is female, whereas proper-born Namekians are asexual in nature.

Personality:
Flute is first and foremost an optimist. She strives to see the good in any situation, often to the detriment of her good sense. People, too, are given the fullest benefit of the doubt, to the extent that those around her are flummoxed by her inability or reluctance to think ill of others. She is hardly one-dimensional, however, and there are reserves to her soul that few people have come across, few people have tapped. She believes that one should ever push oneself to the best of one's ability, that by being the utmost version of oneself will one become best able to help others. This includes, believe it or not, physical combat, as Flute adores the philosophical evaluations and elevations of the self that come with true devotion to the martial arts.

Bio:
The Briefs Family had ever been kind of heart and good of intention, and though they were eccentric they were slow to anger. Ever did they strive to make the world a better place. When they were pushed out of the executive positions of Capsule Corporation, the brilliant company that their ancestors had founded, they could no longer sway the board with their humanitarian influence. The discoveries they had wrought became fodder for military contracts rather than some higher sense of purpose.

There came science without heart, invention and innovation without conscience. They manipulated the very fabric of life even as the tendrils of their moneymaking empire oozed into most aspects of life worldwide.

Certain scientists among their number sought to improve upon the human genome by integrating aspects of other, extraterrestrial species species. To that end, they harvested genetic samples and maintained them carefully in labs, splicing and re-splicing, attempting to achieve anew and improve upon the successes of Mr. Jaguar's scientists with "bio-fighters" and Dr. Gero with his Artificial Human "Androids."

One such experiment involved samples taken from the mighty Piccolo before his demise, as well as other varying castes of Namekians residing on the distant New Namek. As unusual as the Namekians were compared to humans, it was difficult to cross-weave the DNA strands, but eventually, eventually, they managed to craft a viable life-form.

They were, God help them, disappointed with the result. While Flute had considerable power levels potentially at her disposal, as well as biological capabilities, she appeared to have some kind of genetic memory "block" preventing her from accessing the majority of these powers. She was, for the very most part, only human-- albeit a strikingly green human.

Also flustering her scientist masters was her dogged devotion to peace, happiness, and thinking the best of everyone. In this way, she proved resistant to brainwashing and propaganda and the like. Their test-tube super-soldier proved capable enough in a fight, but hardly worth the vast time and money they'd invested in her-- hardly the person of mass destruction that their projections had calculated.

The project was immediately cancelled, and the funds diverted to executive coffers.

They considered putting Flute herself in cryogenic deep freeze, but instead relegated her to menial, tasks at an out of the way facility, the fate of disgraced paper-pushers-- at least they'd get some piddling return on investment that way. But eventually this facility was closed, too, and she was lost and forgotten in the shuffling of paperwork and the cutting of red tape. Essentially laid off, she decided in her optimism that this was her chance to travel the world, and thus she set off.

Not only was her blue-sky nature at odds with The Capsule Corporation's attempted indoctrination, but it is often at odds with the aggressive nature of the world, and thus she finds herself very nearly as much an alien as she would have been if actually native-born on another planet. Much of Earth's contemporary culture and history mystify her, but she does her best to cope. She has taken up the arts of combat, if only to pursue the highest ideal of herself and the peace of mind achieved by true masters of the arts. She has found that much combat prowess is locked away in her genetic memory, passed down to her by her various Namekian ancestors, though she has only scratched the surface of this.

She may one day unlock her enormous regenerative capabilities, and limited shapechanging, and aerokinesis, and she may one day discover that she possesses an instinctive mastery of bukujutsu, but these remain far out of her reach for now. These days, she just heals a little faster than most people. She has much heart, much talent, but not nearly as much training as she would like. She seeks only to improve herself... for the benefit of mankind.

Update:

Couple of appointments tomorrrrrrrow.

I have Thursday off, so I hope to get more writing done (assuming I can get my arse in gear).

Then with all the fighters that you already have I was thinking that maybe I could play as a Majin. I was thinking that it would develop along the lines of the DBZ online game, so still start under powered just strong, able to warp body a little for various attacks etc, then build up towards the real powerful stuff.

Barring that I may play an animal fighter as the DBZ universe is full of them. Heck Lord Beiros is a Cat/ Jackal and he is the god of destruction.

Had a wandering thought the other day and it's been nagging me, please feel free to shoot it down.

The movie "Dragonball: Evolution" mentions Airbending.

Now, I realize that that particular film was, aside from some lovely people in the cast (Emmy Rossum, Jamie Chung, Chow-Yun Fat, James Marsters), an abomination against God and Nature. Whitewashing the protagonist and bastardizing the source material is a surefire way to alienate your target fandom!

But aerokinesis is one of my favorite super powers. Would it be possible for Flute at some point to develop an ability based around that? In lieu of energy projection powers? Even her bukujutsu could stem from wind-manipulation.

What do you think?

Blah blah, not gonna defend nor attack the movies right now. Gonna make a few statements.

Of the four primary types of bending most have been displayed to one degree or another (or at least feasibly could be done) in DBZ already.

Goku demonstrates (presumably accidental) water bending when creating the Spirit Bomb vs Frieza. Sure he's not attacking with it, they just spout up around him but he's clearly the source and he's doing it by accident (it seems.) I see no reason with the existing mythos to say he couldn't weaponize it if he cared.

Goku demonstrates something extremely similar to Airbending vs Jeice and Burter when he first arrives on Namek simply forcing them back with the force of his ki. In fact pretty much every character more powerful than first appearance Vegeta has demonstrated the ability to cause high velocity winds with nothing but their ki. Learning to direct it shouldn't be impossible. When flight is first introduced in Dragonball, if I recall properly the actual technique roughly translates as 'air dancing' anyway. The only airbending technique I can think of that would seem to be beyond what DBZ has demonstrated as plausible is what Zaheer does to the Earth Queen and attempts on Korra by literally sucking the air out of her lungs. (Which given the circumstances seems to be a shitty combat technique. One was used against and old lady non-bender and the other against a nearly dead opponent. Someone who could so much as throw rocks at you might very well interupt the technique)

Cell, Picollo and Frieza all demonstrate techniques sufficiently similar to Earth Bending to pass all tests I could imagine. Cell when building the Cell Games arena, Picollo during the training to prepare for Vegeta and Nappa and Frieza throws a fuck mothering island at Goku early on in their fight.

Firebending is the only style that I can't think of a single example of anybody manipulating. (Though apparently you can cook with ki blasts and a few other examples have suggested they have heat so. . .maybe?

Anyway long story short I'd vote in your favor. Hell in the interest of flavor and fun I'd vote in favor the majority of Naruto and Bleach powersets being at least discussable. One of the few things I really dislike about DBZ is that everybody seems to do the same things with different names with a few "unique" techs like the Tri-Beam. So as long as everybody is reasonably satisfied with the power balance between us all I don't see a good reason why we couldn't spice that up.

Thank you, Sean! This was very informative, and I appreciate it.

I'm not as exhaustively-versed in DBZ and so forth as I am with other fandoms, so this was actually quite helpful.

Yeah, I think a case could be made that Firebending is the Avatar equivalent of Ki blasts, especially given Iroh's descriptions of how Firebending and Lightningbending flow through the body. Ki blasts might even be weaponized Energybending, like skipping over Firebending and going for the bleachers.

Cool.

Either way, my girl could conceivably manifest aerokinesis as an effect of her ki powers, instead of straight-up energy blasts. Awesomesauce.

(And, yeah, I don't think she's going to be asphyxiating world leaders anytime soon-- I highly doubt her corporate masters would have cast her to the curb if she had that kind of killer instinct.)

I'm fairly well versed in basically everything DBZ forward. I know abit about the stuff before but general rule if it's before Raditz I'm kinda flying blind.

A lot of times in these RPs it's a matter of finding out if something seems plausiblegiven the other powers we've seen or reasonable extentions of them. Anyway later.

I tend to take most things into consideration when working on a story, but I'm not so loose that I'll just let it all play.

At any rate, there are quite a few brilliant minds at work here, so I'm confident that we'll be able to experiment a bit without wrinkling too many feathers.

Yup. It's over 9,000!!!

So if a majin was ok I was looking at something like,

http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/powerlisting/images/5/55/Majuub.gif/revision/latest?cb=20120723072854

NAME: Majray
Age:19
Height:5'10"
Hair:Black
Eyes:Brown

Appearance

Majray is a Majin but was created by Majuub and as such has human traits. He looks like a regular human instead of like a Majin but has several traits of that race. He has been given a suit of fighting close just like his 'Fathers' and wears them with pride.

Personality
Majray is the first of his kind. Majuub was not sure if he could actually create offspring the same way other Majin could but he tried and Ray is the result. He looks exactly like his father but has a more happy go lucky attitude. However when it comes to fighting he is very serious. He trains very hard but at the same time he likes to have fun.

Bio
After being created by his father Majray first took time to explore his new world. being fully formed as a teenaged sized being with knowledge of how to fight and of the world did help. He explored for several years, learning different languages and the ways of people, helping out here and there using his strength and growing powers.

Finally he returned to his father to begin his formal training but he still took time off to have fun, it was just in his nature. As he aged his body did not age but his mind did. He became wiser and he began to focus more, but he never lost that wild streak within him.

He had inherited his fathers powers but also had developed certain powers from his Majin side. Perhaps it was because of the way he was created but he was able to manipulate his body structure to stretch a little and sway to avoid attacks as well as strengthen his body. So far this is all he can do but who knows how this will develop later on. He has untapped potential and has yet to unlock any of his energy attacks or chi powers but already his movements are blindingly fast and he is getting close to his fathers 'blazing barrage palm' attack.

He also has an amazing resilience, due to the nature of his skin. It gives slightly when punched absorbing some of the force from each blow. Also if he eats candy he can recover quickly, a trait of most Majins.

Majray is now looking to compete in a tournament to make a name for himself like his father and his fathers friends. However he is doing it for fun and is not too concerned if he wins or not as long as he makes it into the top 4 a tries his best.

Thank you, Kim!

Some of ya'll are probably itching to get things started, and although I've been messing around with the IC-introduction, I wanted to make a few changes before I got it up and running.

No problems. Just get it how you want. An alternate DBZ is going to be tricky to set up and I think each of us is going to have a little trouble with our first posts actually.
