Cary Grant, versatile as fuck. Name the role and he could play it. Father Goose, North by Northwest my fav CG films.,
James Mason, If you had a serious role to play, be it an Emperor, General or villain, give it to James.
John Wayne, he was the quintessential cowboy. I've seen the QM a million times and still laugh at it. Victor McLaglen and Barry Fitzgerald stole the show IMO.
Alan Ladd, quiet strength also because The movie Shane is still one of my top favorites.
Robin Williams, always made me laugh
Gregory Peck, I've never seen him in a bad part. Roman Holiday
Ann Margret , past crush, can sing & dance. Viva Las Vegas my fav performance

After seeing him in "Snowpiercer" (wow!) I had another look and re-evaluated his previous movies, and I now think that he's a great actor. Only 34 and he made such huge progress since he started! Plus, he's also easy on the eyes(a bit young for me, but one is aloud to look… )

I don't disagree if your saying he was one dimensional as an actor. His best films were always Westerns. Some actors excel at certain roles and others not so much.

I could not mention Myrna Loy and leave out William Powell.
