Republicans To Shut Down Government Again Because Screw You, America!

Republicans are rallying behind a bare-knuckle strategy to strip Planned Parenthood’s government support via a must-pass fall spending bill, a momentum shift that dramatically increases the chances of a government shutdown fight this fall.

The desire to burn Congress to the ground has spread faster than herpes in a frat house, and now all the Republicans want in on it. Here is Mr. Reasonable Maverick All-American Hero John McCain, being a pus-guzzling fustilarian, as per usual:

“It could invite a fight, but I think most Americans do not believe that their tax dollars should be used to fund the kind of grotesque procedures we’ve seen authenticated,” said McCain, who is trying to box out any primary challenge. “I would vote for a spending bill that defunded it, and that’s the way it’s going to be … it’s pretty obvious.”

So while the latest polling shows that a majority of Americans still support Planned Parenthood and still oppose defunding it — and they are not inclined to vote for politicians who try to do that — that’s no reason for Republicans to listen to voters and give up this pointless crusade, which is going to fail and damage Republicans and hey, maybe shut down the whole U.S. of American government for a while too, no big. But sure, go for it, Republicans, why not? What’s the worst that could happen?

Shakes head and walks to the bar.

It's extremely unlikely the bill will pass, and the support for it is bipartisan.

PP isn't actually selling the body parts anyhow. They are giving them away to be used in research, with the permission of the girl or woman who had the abortion, and charging for the transportation to the research lab.

Whatever of the fetuses that is not used for research is usually buried or incinerated and treated like medical waste.

That makes no sense? Do you mean there is bipartisan opposition and support?

If it doesn't pass are we going to have another fuck tussle about shutting down the Government and it costing us Billions more for Teddy to puff up his chest?

Yes and probably not. Teddy who?

Catholic Nun Explains Pro-Life In A Way That Will Stun Many (Especially Republican Lawmakers)

In one simple quote, Sister Joan Chittister, O.S.B. sums up the hypocrisy of some in the 'pro-life' movement:

"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is."

Yep, nailed it.

We'll see how one of my sitting Senators votes. He's just about, if not the, lowest hanging fruit to be picked off next cycle. We've got him on tape at a town hall telling me he'd never shut down the government.

Yeah, this is going to make them really popular in the upcoming.

They're not exactly endearing themselves to a lot of people lately, are they?

And $48 million spent in voting to repeal the ACA. Because they're fiscally responsible like that.

I kind of hope they do go forward with the shutdown even though it will negatively impact some people.

48 million is chump change for these people. If you could manage the very difficult near impossible task of cutting say .5% off of the military, Medicare or Social Security and then literally set a pile of 50 million on fire and still come out a head.

White House, "Don't be Dicks... again!"

White House urges Republicans to negotiate to avoid government shutdown

Republicans in the U.S. Congress must negotiate with Democrats on the country’s budget in order to avoid a government shutdown, a White House spokesman said on Thursday.

“If Republican leaders maintain their insistence on trying to pass a budget along party lines, then we are going to be headed for a shutdown because it’s clear to anyone who’s been paying attention for the last several months that they don’t have the votes to pass a budget,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said.

Shakes head and walks to bar for a stiff one.

Drawn-out fights over spending bills are nothing new for Congress. But that's where the fights used to stay: in Congress. The rest of the country didn't have to pay much attention to countdown clocks and all this drama.

"In the '60s and '70s down until 1980, it was not taken that seriously at all," says Charles Tiefer, a former legal adviser to the House of Representatives, who now teaches at the University of Baltimore Law School.

In the old days, he says, when lawmakers reached a budget stalemate, the federal workforce just went about its business.

"It was thought that Congress would soon get around to passing the spending bill and there was no point in raising a ruckus while waiting," he says.

That easygoing attitude changed during the last year of President Jimmy Carter's administration. That's when Attorney General Benjamin Civiletti issued a legal opinion saying government work cannot go on until Congress agrees to pay for it.

"They used an obscure statute to say that if any work continued in an agency where there wasn't money, the employees were behaving like illegal volunteers," says Tiefer. "So they not only could shut off the lights and leave, they were obliged to shut off the lights and leave."

President Obama is on his way out. I doubt that he wants to leave a stain on his legacy.

Leaving American women without the protection of Planned Parenthood, would be a big bloody ugly stain.

The Republicans look for a pressure point when they want leverage to get what concessions they desire.

Last time, around they fought against Obamacare.
This time around, there will be a wrangle based on funding for Planned Parenthood.
Jeb! "The Excitement" Bush got the ball rolling by speaking up about the amount of money given to Planned Parenthood.

The Republicans may have had a kangaroo court condemning Planned Parenthood, without any witnesses for the defense. The Republicans may flood the media with their defense of defunding Planned Parenthood.

Wednesday morning, the Republican-controlled House Judiciary Committee is holding what committee the committee's ranking member John Conyers (D-Mich.) calls a "one-sided" hearing on the heavily edited sting videos that accuse Planned Parenthood of selling fetal parts for profit.

Planned Parenthood responded to not being invited to their own hanging in two ways: they released a report detailing the years of failed smear attempts against the non-profit, dating back to 2000.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America, released a statement politely calling the witnesses “extremists” and the House Judiciary members a bunch of frothing time-wasters with a vendetta and evidently, no more pressing business to attend to.

Planned Parenthood receives from government funds, as the Washington Post and the organization’s annual report says. The women’s health organization receives about $528.4 million through a combination of state, federal and sometimes local government dollars. Very little of what the organization spends is on abortion, and much of it goes toward routine women’s health care like contraception, regular checkups, and breast cancer screenings.

How much of a tax break, do the campaign contributors to the Republican Party hopefuls, want this year ?

$528.4 million is just a drop in the bucket. But, that would be a cash bonanza for all the small fake women's health clinics run by anti abortionists.

That would buy many ultra sound wands to threaten desperate pregnant women with, and would hire many non medical volunteers to lie about abortion to young pregnant women. Rich business men that sell shiny new medical equipment are very willing to share some back scratches, and contribution money. New markets make manufacturers very glad.

Top House Conservative Slams Mitch McConnell, Ramps Up Shutdown Fight

A leading conservative lawmaker eager to dethrone House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) is ratcheting up the pressure for a shutdown battle over Planned Parenthood that neither Boehner nor Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) want and are trying desperately to avoid.

“I cannot and will not fund a vile, racist organization who specializes in convincing mothers to kill their children and then selling their baby parts to the highest bidder," Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) said in a written statement to TPM Tuesday. "During the funding debate two years ago, Mitch McConnell finagled a $2.8 billion dam for his home state. And now when it comes to keeping his pro-life campaign promises, I’m pretty certain he still knows how the process works.”

Teahaddist terrorism, where's the DHS when you need them?

Elizabeth Warren to Ted Cruz: You want a fight over Planned Parenthood? Bring it on

Liberal firebrand Elizabeth Warren took to Ted Cruz‘s home turf Sunday to taunt her U.S. Senate colleague over his high-stakes crusade against Planned Parenthood.

“We will not let Ted Cruz shut down this government over Planned Parenthood! He wants a fight over Planned Parenthood? My answer is, ‘Bring it on, Ted!’” Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, said during a speech in Austin, drawing loud applause.

She's exactly like those that would picket the PP in my city in the '70s and '80s: They wanted to protect from pregnancy to adulthood. They were Catholic lay persons, nuns, priests, and brothers. They were NOT like these faux Christian pro-lifers we have now.

I would see most of them helping out at soup kitchens - I worked one once a month, when the priest would ask us professionals to come in and make high quality meals for the less fortunate. I would see them volunteering at the schools.

I don't see these so called Pro-Lifers doing anything but getting on tv!

Senate leader says federal government will not close

Seems like the grown-ups are in charge now, but what about the Senator from Ottawa?

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday said he would get legislation passed to fund the federal government in time to avoid any agency shutdowns on Oct. 1.

“We’re going to fund the government. We’re not going to shut the government down,” McConnell, a Republican, told reporters. He added that he is seeking a bill that keeps the government running through “late fall,” until a longer spending bill can be negotiated.

McConnell also said he opposes efforts by some conservative Republicans who are insisting that women’s healthcare provider Planned Parenthood be defunded as part of any government funding bill. House of Representatives conservatives are warning against passing any temporary funding bill without deleting Planned Parenthood funds.
