For the record

Great idea!

Indeed. eyer has gone too far, too many times.

Personally, I am getting sick & tired of some of the bullying that's going on in this forum.
And I agree that Ishmael does it, as well, from time to time, but this time he's simply reacting to someone who's been repeatedly twisting the knife into the heart of a grieving father.

I'm personally disappointed with Laurel's stance on the whole matter, tbh.

You should write her a stern note. I am sure when she learns she's let you down, she will change her ways.

eyer is a source of comedy.

Laurel's stance is the same as it's been. It's about posting personal information repeatedly despite warnings.

Ish should have known better and he was probably too drunk to stop his righteous indignation from getting himself a "Loves Spam" title and banned, and now we all aspirate and he does not necessarily exist.

There's no actual victim here, this is all a voluntary endeavor.

No-one gives a fuck what you think, you cunt.

Too much coffee? That wasn't funny. It was lame just like the rest of his insults.

Anyhow. Ish will be back, children.

Sure, but it's like Pat Sematary, they never come back the same.

Look at you, for example. Since you returned from the dead, you've been like a rottweiler with all it's teeth pulled out.

Your sarcasm fails to reach me.
Maybe because, in my books, bullying someone who's lost his sons (about this matter)
fairs much worse than accusing someone of being a paedophile

Right. Exactly. Harmless as usual. Thats the point.

I need to buy coffee. Thanks for the reminder! :rose:

I bought 6 bad ass canoli last night. Don't forget the pastries.

I don't agree. As distasteful as mocking someone's personal losses are, it neither opens that person up to possible legal investigation nor places the site as a whole at risk.

Here's the flow chart:

Accusing someone of something in vague terms > is it okay by site rules > yes! > do not get banned. Do not get content removed.

Post something that is against site rules, personal information or accounts of pedophilia, etc. > is it okay by site rules? > no! > get a warning and content removed.

Repeatedly...post something...that is against site rules, personal information or accounts of pedophilia, etc. is it okay by site rules? > no! > get further warnings and ultimately banned.

This was not a one time thing, you're missing some history, but the tags of the removal of the content tell the story.

Yes, death and pedophilia and grief are all terrible things. Worse than banning.

However, doing something against site rules repeatedly does not a martyr make.

Might be good for the guy, another hobby other than shitposting and drinking might be beneficial.

Good point, actually. You're right.

But on a peripheral note:
A lot of GBers get mean from time to time (myself, included).
But I am perplexed as to how far a few users are willing to go ie attacking someone about one's cancer, deceased sons, etc. I'm not saying that Laurel should intervene here, but that us (as users) could shut them up, when they are going too far.

Dunno, Laurel doesn't usually do temporary bans, it's usually the nuclear option.

If this was an event over 10 years ago, under W. Bush.....it'd be "Noockeler"
That man couldn't pronounce that word to save his life.

...or the rest of the world.

So, was Ish really booted? Seems it was so sudden and hard he flew outta here with a sock flapping outta his ass.

I'm sorry about that tho. He's always been a fixture here...love him or not.

Bye Ish. <wipes tear>

I am a bit more conflict - oriented.
I've seen some people here bully a user who was undergoing cancer treatment, but this one… it tops even that. Not that I haven't been mean myself, but I never sank as low as that.
I think that the user deserves public shaming (aka Ishmael to post his name + comments).

I'm off the thread now, sorry about highjacking it, but what happened to the OP made me v.angry.

I don't believe in public shaming. I don't know what happened, but the only people who really do are those involved and they probably see different sides of it like in your cancer treatment bullying example.

I do agree that forum rules should be followed by all.

In general, it would be great if people were at least civil to each other, but on Lit as in RL, this is not always the case. All we can really change/control is ourselves.

Make that change :) https://youtu.be/F9Nh84lfvW0

AJ, if you are in touch with Ish...tell him that myself and others are thinking of him and looking forward to his return. thanks

I agree (minus the last 2).
And sorry about bringing you into the mix, I shouldn't have done that.
But eyer (aka Chansen, etc..) really got on my nerves today + a couple of things from this thread got me v. worked up and I posted.

Don't worry about me, just trying to explain what might seem random. It's not random or biased, it's just the way that it works here.

I'm here because I actually believe in the whole free speech ideal, and it comes with sacrifices to be made. You can say what you want, other people can say what they want. Words are not actions.

It also means that either you get over the need to punch or punish someone for thinking they way they do or you don't. You settle for doing it in words or doing without.

What you might see as callousness is really more of a herd helplessness. In reality you might be able to DO something about someone bleeding out in front of you. Here, unless you've made the anonymity leap (and I have luckily enough in this case to know what the hell is going on) you can't do a damned thing. The person behind the voice is unreachable.

There's a lot of mystery and a lot of pain and a lot of the herd shrugging and making a piñata about it because...bystander, helpless, might as well make the most of it.

So do you believe in free speech or don't you? Do you understand the site rules or don't you? Either one can trip you up.

Feeling sorry for Ish, though, that's not going to get you much sympathy, certainly none from me.
