Where should I post this?

I want to post an excerpt every day from my published books. Not necessarily to get feedback one way or the other. Just wanted to give people a glimpse of what I write. But I didn't know where to post them, or even if I'm allowed to start a new thread every day. I prefer not to keep adding to one thread, as they tend to get lost in the masses of new threads being started every day. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks

The answer to "Where should I post this?" would almost always be answered with, not in GB. Atleast from what I've seen.

Thanks for the tip

There are just so many threads and sections to choose from. Don't know where to put it.

The problem about "getting lost" is resolved if you add (legitimate) content to a thread regularly since that puts the thread back to the top each time you do. As you gather fans, and they make comments, again it moves it to the top. Responding to other posters also moves it back to the top.

If your material fails to garner any interest, it will just look like you are bumping the thread hoping for interest that is not forthcoming and it fades to obscurity when you finally give up.

There is an interesting writer that uses her thread as a writer's journal I think. She jots thoughts and scenes that I think are quite good. Few people comment and her thread mostly goes unnoticed. It's a little treat when I bump into it again ever now and again, so don't assume that no comments means no one reads it. I can't remember the poster, thread, or even the forum. I think it may be in the BDSM Cafe.

You want to start a new thread every day with the sole purpose of exhibiting your published work? Might that not be construed as tantamount to using Literotica for free marketing?

You say you aren't especially bothered about getting feedback - but then what else are people supposed to discuss on these threads? You do understand that threads are supposed to be discussions, yes? Not an advertising platform.

In short, by all means join in the boards, talk to people, make friends and, as part of that natural process, quote short extracts where relevant to the discussion if you wish. But to come here only to show off your work is immoral, cheap, and most importantly against the site rules.

The answer to the question, "Where should I put this?" is always, "In the butt!!!"

How rude!

If I post excerpts from my books without saying the name of the book, then how am I exploiting the site for advertising? Nobody here knows my pen name. And what I meant when I said I wasn't necessarily looking for feedback was that whatever anyone thought of my excerpts wouldn't make a difference in whether the book was going to be sold, because they're already out there. I actually came to this site in the first place because I wanted to show people some of my work without the worry of having to get a sale out of it! I've only been a member here for a couple of days, so I was a bit overwhelmed and didn't want to do anything that was against the rules or offend anyone. Excuse the hell out of me for asking before just posting excerpts without knowing the proper protocol.

You're not wrong. But that rule would probably only be enforced against this individual because they are a noob. There is at least one poster who's signature line is for his Amazon books so clearly Laurel doesn't care about that rule but so much more than she cares about us posting pictures to the forums.

I truly didn't mean to rub anyone the wrong way. I made it a point not to use the full name that I write with because I didn't want people accusing me of exactly this kind of thing. Apparently, the fact that I asked here before jumping the gun was a mistake. I didn't think people would react so rudely.

It's okay, Shirley honey baby. No one here deliberately means to be beastly to you.

It's the middle of the summer, y'see. Temperature's rising, blood is hot, skins are heated, clothes are loosened and soaked with sweat, passions run wild and free, our yang is ascendant. Nipples are erect, too.

*ahem*

Come now, let's have a few drinks to relax ourselves...and we can talk about how you can rub me the right way.

Ok...that put a smile back on my face.

Aren't you sweet? Thanks for making me feel better. You're a peach!

That requires writing full stories, right? Not just posting blurbs or excerpts? I could do that. I can just write something new for the lit site. I would just have to scale back from novel length. I could definitely do that.

Are you an accomplished erotica fiction writer like jenninflorida?

You might consider posting your pieces in the Literotica story site: https://www.literotica.com/storyxs/writ_stor.shtml

Not the best plan in history to be honest. Though it does depend heavily on length, what the copyright issues are with these stories since they are published already and without being an expert on those laws I do know that just cus your the author doesn't mean you can fuck the publisher and infact they can fuck you. I believe it was the author of the Vampire Diaries who eventually got screwed because the publisher didn't like the direction she was going. It might be another author I only know because they were happy when Kindle Worlds popped up and they could get paid for writing fan fic of their own work, to unfuck what the later authors had done.

Anyway I ramble, you may want to check on the legality of THAT. Also they need to be 750 words which if it's a full story shouldn't be an issue.

Kinda sorta. You can definitely post chapters. Since real stories can and do start en media res (I think I spelled that right) it's difficult to tell. You might want to ask Laurel what the official laws say about exerts on the main site.

I suggest you check out the Author Hangout.

The general board can kind of be like a cross between a boxing match, meat locker, league of women voters' political debate where no one uses Robert's Rules of Order, Saturday night at the local place with car hops and whatever else people feel like. It is also not moderated.

I am not exactly clear why you want to post excerpts.

You might be more specific if you go over to the AH.

There's no place on the forum to post short stories/books or excerpts of them. That's what the story file is for. The web site maintains the privilege of vetting stories posted to Literotica for meeting its submissions requirements and when you post them directly to the forum, you are circumventing that. You could submit your books by chapter to the story file through your submissions page reached by logging in to the Story Page.

Ah, you. You would know better than if that is even legal. I mean wouldn't your publisher shit a solid brick if you started giving your product away?

This is also a good idea.

What she said and I'd stay the hell off the GB unless you like barroom brawls. This place is like swimming with sharks, everything can seem calm and serene one second, then BANG some asshole takes a chuck of the noob and before you know it all that's left is an FNG sobbing in the corner. Yep, this ain't the place for someone soft or seriously *shutter* nice. You gots to have skin and inch thick and a tongue like an adder to make it around here.

The Author Hangout is thataway BTW.
