We voted ''No'' and now the creditors punished and humiliated us. We should rebel and get out of the Eurozone!

It would be nice if Greece, Portugal and Spain all gave Germany a kick in the ass.

I hope Greece rejects these new pension reforms and tax increases.

And why are Greek citizens so weak minded that they haven't stormed those banks and taken their cash out by force?

Mr Tsipras came to power after his left-wing Syriza party won elections in January on a promise to end austerity. Greece has already received two bailouts totalling €240bn since 2010.
Minister Tsipras needs to be made more accountable to the people. The French might have some historical lessons that the Greeks can learn from.

I don't see why anyone would be happy about it. Nor should anybody be surprised about what the natural consequences that are the result of years of spending more than you take in. In America we have had large cities and counties and soon States in the exact same situation as Greece.

The only reason that Americans get overly excited about Greece is because it's seen by some as a microcosm for what is going on here. There are those that see certain trouble ahead in our future and those that believe, naively, that we can continue to do what we're doing forever.

The good news if you pull out if the Euro is that you will get a lot of Drachmas in exchange. The bad news will be how little you will be able to buy with a wallet full of Drachmas.

Finally some posters who are more objective/ less polarized.
I concurr.
Personally, I'm not anti-American or pro-Greece, or anti-anyone, not by a long shot. But it saddens me to hear what's going on in Europe : cultures are being gradually destroyed, the little guy (who has no say in this whole mismanagement and 2008 trickle-down mess) getting poorer and increasingly desperate…

Because there's no money in the bank. Do you not understand how banking works? When you make a deposit they don't take a wheelbarrow full of cash and throw it in the vault just waiting for you to come ask for it back. They lend it out. They've lent it to other Greek citizens they have lent it to the government they have lent it to themselves. The money does not exist except as obligations.

Let me guess. You figure that the government of Greece should just print up some paper Euros? Under what authority? Watering down the value of every Euro in Europe. So let's try another tactic let's print Greek notes instead. Fiat currency issued by a government with no assets is worthless.

Greek citizens would be better off just trading seashells amongst themselves.

The French Revolution occured to institute mob rule. In that case it was reasonably fruitful because they had wealthy rulers whose treasury they could plunder. Greece and every other democracy in the world already has mob rule. Once the mob figures out that they can vote themselves plunder they do. Why do you think Greece is in the problem it is now? They have voted themselves the entire Treasury and then some. There is nothing left in the Treasury. Why storm the castle when 62 percent of the mob already decided to vote themselves the Treasury. The problem is there's nothing left.

There are corrupt countries all over the world. The people starve. Why would Greece be any different? No one is happy that people starve in Somalia. Somalis get the government that they put up with. As do those in Greece.

Let the fools starve or let the Arabs fuck them in the ass for a few dates.

Don't even try appealing to me about the danger of worthless fiat currency. I'm the dude who supports running the US presses until they melt down - to drive up the cost of foreign imports and make foreign outsourcing totally pointless. And hyperinflation destroys the wealth of the Plutocrats, too. (Surprisingly, it is hyperDEFLATION that hurts the working class the most.)

The French Revolution set in motion the democracy that exists there now; else they'd probably still be a monarchy. As for Somalia... they have no government. They are the Libertarian fantasy played straight.

No it did not. You forgot Napolean I, Louis XVIII, Charles X, Louis Philippe and Napolean III; not to mention that exemplary democrat, Charles de Gaulle!

You do not know your history!

Does anyone else see the irony in the Greek president begging for more money wearing a €2500 suit?
