When I first heard about Obamacare, I thought this can't be right, the Govt commands you to buy a product?

However upon reflection it's like Car Insurance, and Liability Insurance is the price of Mobility in a litigious world. I was happy to see the reforms that were made, however it seems to me that single payer could be ultimately less overhead.

No one ever talks about the fact that Big Insurance is sucking a large amount off the people, but when that shit hits the fan, they don't have the capital to pay off on the slick policies they sold to Wall Street.

so why aren't we talking about Insurance Reform?

Oh yeah, Citizens United.

People are talking about a single payer system. The only thing that will over come Citzen's United is a people untitled. Unfortunately, there's been a concerted effort to divide folks that ought to be fighting for the policies that would them. Divided by melatonin, urban vs rural, etc.

I brought this up during the peak of the Obama knob jobbing and fawning over what a major landmark, earth shattering, fix all, game over win that ACA was.

I was promptly scorned as the racist Obama hating libertarian for even suggesting that ACA was a giant fucking rip off....."IT'S A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS! FUCKING RACIST!!! "

LOL.....

That was two separate issues that you have conflated.

So I didn't get called a racist/libertarian/RWCJ member/hater etc for suggesting that ACA is in fact not the greatest HC system ever devised?

Because I'm pretty fucking sure that's exactly what happened.....

But since you know better do tell me what happened instead, I'd love to hear it. :)

You know what fuck it.....

You're right phro, everyone on the left was perfectly rational and impeccably well mannered about any and all criticism about the economic impacts of the ACA.

None on the GB could have EVER imagined calling me a racist shit stain for criticizing the ACA in such a crass manner then call POTUS a scum bag sell out.

You win!!

I'm not going to pretend that everybody on the left is rational nor that you were never called a racist. I'm not going to look back but I may have called you one and if I did I'm sorry. I'm as guilty as anybody of occasionally getting emotional over shit.

That being said the ACA is a step in the right direction and we had to knock a lot of dicks in the dirt to get this baby step and nothing more was realistically going to happen without a lot more Dems in the Congress. I mean like 70+ where even the Dems who are are only slightly left of center (think Hillary Clinton who I'm convinced would be a Republican if she wasn't married to Bill) slowing things up.

Actually you were one of the few who didn't knee jerk "OH YOU'RE JUST RACIST! RAWWWW!!" at me like some of the more defensive folks.

I'm pretty sure you even admitted that even though you thought it was worth it, yep, we were still getting fucked as far as the wallet goes.

Prob because you actually read what I was posting and saw I wasn't against HC, HC reform or even Obama....just think we could do better than ACA.

It is in some ways, it will be really good if it brings the economics of it into the light....

If my MRI cost 750 bucks when I pay cash it shouldn't be billed to the gov for 12 fuckin' grand......

Hopefully that's the next big HC fight...but I doubt it. They will wait 20 years until we are all desperate then dangle a 500 trillion dollar used band-aid in front of everyone and watch as the people cream themselves over it.

I tend to be one of the sane people around here but every so often I just declare "fuck it let's go to war" and lets be honest you're a goddamn warrior.

And given what we know about health care reform in this country yeah, twenty years or so sounds about right for how long we'll have to wait for the next change. Basically we're waiting for the Republicans to fuck up sufficiiently that the Dems get a super majority again

Where to even begin with all of this, except to say, yes, the ACA is a necessary step in the right direction. Talk to my friend who has a benign brain tumor, and so prior to ACA couldn't even get health insurance with a rider to exclude her medical condition. She will die of old age before dying of this tumor! Talk to folks whose children need their health insurance but before the ACA couldn't get it because they reached a certain age. Talk to others who were cut from their insurance because they experienced a health crisis and no longer fit the "profile".

Is the ACA the best thing? No, but its a start. ANd that's what Congress is for if/when they do their job. They work with a law; they make it BETTER! Medicare had the same naysayers. Its not the best, but it has been vital to the elderly and disabled. And it gets tinkered with almost every year.

The ACA is the closest to health insurance reform we have had. What we need is health CARE reform. Its time for a single payer system. We provide public education, why not public health care? We say we are an industrialized nation, but we are far from the other nations in caring for our citizens.

Thanks for letting me rant.

But we will need Dem's who are not tools of the 1% to get anything done.

Good Luck with that!

That is less necessary. Granted there aren't a lot of them that aren't 'tools' of the 1% but the real difference between Dems and Reps on certain things isn't more about a difference in how they view the world. Dems seem more likely to believe that when your poor do well they buy more stuff from the rich. Rich guy wins. Reps thing if the rich get richer they'll pay more money to people.
