Should Gone With the Wind be banned?

The film “Gone With The Wind” is a classic set in the South during the American Civil War, a time when the country was divided in two.

Today, people are split about banning the movie over its racial politics.

Frankly, I don't give a damn.

Yeah, I heard some idiot screaming yesterday that "the government" had banned The Dukes Of Hazzard.

Wingnuts love the free market, right up until the free market decides that kissing up to nuts isn't good business.

free market, you think that term still applies? What we are seeing here is pure censorship and its being met with cheers because its based on an item with a dubious reputation....but it opened the gates for more than that and everyone will be a 'wing nut' until something they like is banned.

The goverment flying the flag is a mistake, the government represents the people and needs to be wary of how it does so, but as far as retail? This is pure censorship.

Remember that when something you like hits the 'we don't feel comfortable selling this' list. Its always funny and 'right' until it hits home.

Since when is a business deciding of it's own volition not to offer a product censorship?

The government didn't MAKE Walmart and Amazon et al do anything. They took a business decision. Why do you hate capitalism? What are you, some kind of dirty commie?

i'm a dirty commie. i should really shower soon, but i have a feeling this thing is going into overtime.

Gone With The Wind??? They're still streaming "Birth of A Nation" on Netflix instant play!

Nope, censorship would be if the government told stores that they could no longer sell merchandise with confederate symbols on them. This did not happen, stores pulled those items of their own free will.

Do you think a store should be forced to sell merchandise it thinks will be harmful to it's image?

Since you are apparently too stupid to do your own shopping, here are just a handful of online sources for confederate flags. Most report substantial back orders, so while you are waiting to receive your order you can entertain yourself with the paranoia that the government has actually gone in and shut them down.

I did not say the government did-I mentioned for them its necessary because of who they are- and as for capitalism? Capitalism would dictate you sell anything there is a market for and not let 'opinion' sway that.

The owners of those businesses are now exerting their personal opinion(driven by public perception...ever think for a second either wal mart of amazon care about people, or racism, or anything like that) and telling the public what they can and cannot buy.

If the big two there(both of whom cannot even spell ethical which makes this more hypocritical) are so concerned with a 'racist symbol' then shouldn't they be removing all nazi related items? And anything else of the ilk?

nope only removing this because its trendy.

Wait until erotica is deemed 'wrong' and lit is removed because no web host will carry it, but that would be different, right? because it would affect people here.

And I am sure every source you linked will come under fire as "racist" until they are either put out of business or cave to....censorship as in the few deciding what the majority should and should not buy

I personally could care less about that flag, I'm from the north it has no bearing on my heritage or beliefs. But I believe in freedom of speech and this country has lost that right unless of course you say what the PC mob says you can say.

I think that harkens back to your social media reference in another thread. Trump being another casualty of 'Twitter Rage.' Further, you presume that they're 'wingnuts' when political contributions tend to indicate otherwise.

I'm somewhat perplexed by Macy's move. It's not as if the Latino's are a major market for them. I look for some push back there.

But next week it will be something new and all this righteous indignation will have been about as effective as the twitter campaign to 'let our girls go.' Little brush fires that burn themselves out without anyone having to piss on them.

It could be that Macy's found he wasn't anything as near to a men's fashion magnet as they hoped and that, in doing business with him, they discovered (who knew?) what an egotistical donkey he was and were happy for any excuse to cut him loose, finding this one that gave them a bit of social applause.

Do you think a store should be forced to sell merchandise it thinks will be harmful to it's image?

Do you think a store should be forced to offer/sell services it thinks are repugnant to it's beliefs?

Of course you do...

...you natively disingenuous piece of cuckold shit.

didn't quite understand your question, mr. Bates.
Was it
"Should Wings be banned?"
