Like I say, I see things differently regarding art. I will always believe that it should be shared. Consider those artists, especially painters, who kept their work secret while they were alive. Suddenly they die and their work appears in galleries all over the place, for example Vincent Van Gogh? He died a poor and depressed man when he didn't need to. If only he had "shared" he may have been a happy man, not to mention possibly wealthy. Just my opinion again :)

Monday

Morning everyone :)
===========================================
Hello Sienna, just dropping off a hug and hope your week goes well:kiss:;)
===========================================
===========================================
Monday was a very busy work day for me. Beginning at around 6.30am and not ending until around 10.30pm. The longest training day so far with a client covering two of their work shifts doing measurement tests with their engineers, managers and production workers. It was also an education for myself getting to know the parts they produce and the toolage required to make them from the various types of steel.

I managed to bridge the gap between tool makers and production machinists, a vital move required. If the tool is wrong, then the product is going to fail on measurement. I introduced management to "suggestion box" usage, so that employees can put their ideas forward rather than waste time on quality circles. I am 100% Taguchi method, especially in engineering production. It was good because lots of our client employees and managers found quality circles a waste of time and useless. I agreed. If the component standard (customer or registered ) is there to be worked with, any ideas should come from individuals for any improvement considerations (customer or manufacturer). Business wise, they day was very rewarding but tiring.

Today, Tuesday was easier. All I had to do was see if the suggestion box idea was working at another clients premises. The response was good if you filtered out the obvious :) Lots of suggestions were based upon pay rise issues :) But there were some quality positive suggestions which I was happy about...at least the management became aware that their employees were not happy with what fellow workers were paid regarding other similar manufacturing companies. I pointed out that if the staff are not happy with pay, it was something that should be considered financially, then of course left that issue to those it involved. If the workers were unhappy with an issue like pay then it could psychologically have a problem in cause and affect in the long term...my comment did not go down very well with one member of our clients higher management in private asking my thoughts, but it was true...time will tell

Sounds very business, personally I subscribe to the Lovegood theory of management, but Taguchi has it's merits.....
/has no idea what he's talking about clearly.

It states, never fire the person that brings the donuts. :D

Sounds a good theory :) But, unfortunately sometimes during my lunch breaks, which warl0ck would not probably agree with, I get my own delicious donuts ;) Not exactly healthy, because I usually return home at the end of the day with the half eaten healthy salad and crispbread lunch which I made room for in my meal for those donuts :) I even find a nice place to get some nice English cod and chips. Chips to you would be greasy french fries:eek:

Should I fire myself?

Van Gogh and Sharing Art

Hi.

Just want to point out that Van Gogh did try to share his art. He sent sketches and paintings to his brother Theo, who was an art dealer in Paris. Wikipedia has this about Vincent writing to Theo in the mid 1880's:

"When he complained that Theo was not making enough effort to sell his paintings in Paris, his brother wrote back, telling him that the paintings were too dark and not in line with the current style of bright Impressionist paintings."

There's also this, about some earlier efforts:
"In Spring 1882, his uncle, Cornelis Marinus - owner of a renowned gallery of contemporary art in Amsterdam - asked him for drawings of the Hague. Van Gogh's work did not prove equal to his uncle's expectations. Marinus offered a second commission, this time specifying the subject matter in detail, but was once again disappointed with the result. Nevertheless, Van Gogh persevered. He improved the lighting of his studio by installing variable shutters and experimented with a variety of drawing materials. For more than a year he worked on single figures —highly elaborated studies in "Black and White",[28] which at the time gained him only criticism. Today, they are recognized as his first masterpieces.[29]"

So he didn't hide his work, and wanted commercial success, but only sold one painting (I believe) during his lifetime.

I think you may be mistaken about Van Gogh sharing his art...

Again nobody qualified enough in today's interviews, but I thought I was close. I had a graduate student from Bristol University, unfortunately no job experience and dishonest on his CV. He wrote that he did have work experience with a company, using his retired grandfather's name. We certainly find all kinds :)

Glad you found it interesting, Sienna. :) I agree with your point about art being something which is meant to be shared, by the way.

Helllo Sienna,
Amazing how some just have to expand their experience and then get caught. Not good. I am sure the right person will come along soon. :)

We are now thinking of searching on the continent. It will be expensive unfortunately, but the UK just doesn't have the right kind of people. All I can say is if a product says "made in the UK" don't trust its quality... bad news, but it maybe true.

As the saying goes. All good things take time. ;)

As the saying goes. All good things take time. ;)

I did a statistical calculation with a colleague of mine and we should be able to find around 32% chance in finding someone who is currently unemployed or thinking of finding somewhere new to work in the UK in that line of work... what happened to those statistics? Easy answer, nobody wants to go into quality engineering even if they qualify for the job ... It isn't rocket science as they say...

Money talks at times to get better quality. Just where a short skirt and sexy panties and cross your legs in front of them and I am sure someone will want the job male or female;)

Easy. Up the pay..... :D

Hi Sundayschild ;) ... ((( huggggssss )))

In our training methods with our clients we are going to get them interested in a system that works successfully in Japan :) Where workers are rewarded, not only on production output, but also quality :) It might prove difficult here in the UK because Japanese workers think positive about rewards. In the UK unfortunately they want "money for nothing and the chips are free." ;) Not easy, but we have to go Japanese style like it or not eventually. No quality, no rewards which include pay awards Sundayschild :) Whether our method will work or not... we shall have to see :)

By the way pk1, even I am not allowed to conduct my interviews as you have suggested ;) We have a company dress code; white blouse and navy knee length skirt or slacks in my case, with a nice neat ponytail and yes, I am allowed navy or black coloured heels :)

:D A flippant remark that was mostly meant in jest. However, a little extra during the recruitment process goes a long way and certainly wouldn't be against Japanese (or indeed any other) business principles. Stuff like meeting over a meal, or even just paying for the taxi from the station shows their value and will count for more than an extra grand on the pay packet - to the RIGHT candidate. (Anyone who can tell me how to italicise?).

If you like to read the start of the book The Firm is interesting, but probably takes it a bit far..... :)

Good luck with your search - statistically you should have someone in your second round of searches, neh?
