I'm pretty sure he's dead. Death is one of those things Martin doesn't bait-and-switch about. However, remember Beric and Lady Stoneheart.

He makes it up as he goes along. First book, magic was really only in creatures and the people bound to them, dire wolves and dragons.

Then we get these priests and priestesses drowning folk, burning folk, bring folk back to life...

I don't think Jon's dead. They stabbed him an awful lot, but there's tons of magic in them there wildlings, walls, dire wolves, Red Priestesses and such.

He can also come back a walker right fast and kill everyone unless he cuts himself with Long Claw.

Other deaths tend to be seen by other people's viewpoints.

Nobody left at Castle Black (in the series, Sam is, but in the books, he's gone to the Citadel) to see him die.

I think Catlin saw her own death, but she's back...

Jon wasn't dead when we left him, just really, really stabbed. A lot stabbed. Bunches of stabbing. Overstabbed.

I don't think he's entirely making it up as he goes along. It was teased that something weird was going on with Lord Beric long before we ever directly saw him, for example, and likewise teased that the return of magic was bringing all sorts of weird powers back to the world -- and not just those related to animals -- right from the first couple of books and our first glimpse of Melisandre. He's developed those themes quite consistently, really.

And I mean, there's a pretty likely trajectory marked out for Jon Snow (whose death seems pretty unambiguously described to me in that last book -- no less than, say, Catelyn Stark's -- YMMV). Melisandre is right there, we know she's a fire priestess with authentic powers -- even if she doesn't always interpret her visions correctly -- and we know what such priests can do. It's not a happy development for Jon Snow, of course... but who was actually expecting happy?

I kind of thought coldhands was uncle ben from the start. It was the only thing that makes sense. Its obvious whoever it is is a whight but the question is who controls it. Cant be the walkers because this thing still has memories or some sort of mind

They threw that into the series and I sat up. One of the Night's Watch came to Jon to draw him out by saying "Someone's here who knows about your uncle Benjen"

Honestly what I'm most looking forward to is some more unravelling of the mysteries about the Wall, the North and the Others (and why R'hllor, whatever it is, is plainly so interested in getting involved).

Oh, and hopefully Ramsay Bolton getting buggered and flayed and fed to his own dogs at some point.

Odd, I feel the same way about some people's choices in avatars...I'm not saying YOURS is one of them per se.

Anway, nice garden Remy. I have a brown thumb. But again, if it doesn't make noise it doesn't get fed in my world. I WANT to have a pretty garden but I also accept the fact it would probably have to be a rock garden.

They will. I might not get a lot out of them but I'll get some. My roma plant is huge though. My radishes are about ready for harvest. I'm getting some small squash and zucchini. Bell peppers should be ready to pick soon.
