I was dusting my smoke alarm and it fell into my hands and the test doesn't work. I need a battery.

You might too.

We aren't allowed to have smoke detectors that need a change of batteries here. You have to buy a whole new detector.

Well, the poor don't really need detectors do they? Better off letting nature take its course, I expect. On a serious note, many communities have programs to make them available for free. Often through your local firehouse.

I...what?

Illegal to sell the kind with replaceable batteries in the state. Also, all new construction homes have to have automatic fire sprinklers.

It's because the Baltimorons keep setting their shacks on fire.

Mine makes such a godawful noise I disconnected it. I'd rather choke to death in my sleep. But my wife installed another. :(

it's CO, but whatever.

and that is wired in. the smoke detectors, however, are not and they vary greatly in terms of functionality. but, hey, the one in my bedroom works, so yay for that.

Thanks for the reminder

My landlord is selling the duplex I live in, if he sells it as a single family house, he will need to hard wire all smoke alarms in, as a duplex they can be battery operated.

I just tested my smoke, CO and gas detector and they all work. I recommend earplugs for the gas detector, it yells very loudly, flashes and beeps. I am sure you could hear it through earplugs but it might not be as bad.

Good deal. :)

Who did you listen too in the 80's? Barry Manilow?

Sort of, he was a favorite of my mom. Mostly whatever my sister listened to; Sabbath, Beatles, Zep. Along with local punk rock. And Firehouse was the '90's, moron. Do you enjoy being wrong all the time?

1989 actually.

I said 80's because you don't like any of the eighties hair metal bands.

I change mine when we change our clocks.

New CO detectors will bought this fall.

The detectors themselves should have a production date stamped onto the back of them. They are generally good for about ten years. You'll know when they give out, as they will spontaneously alarm, around 4 o'clock in the morning by my experience.
