Is there any legitimate any reason why polyandry and polygamy should continue to be outside the law?

Is there any reason a marriage between a woman and her cat should be outside the law?

See, this is great. You're all correct by the way. The slippery slope and the law of unintended consequences.

I'd like two husbands.

Sure why not....That's between you and the two idiots you marry. The states job is to take your 200 bucks and file the fucking paperwork on them. Not who you can and cannot have a legal contract with.

The slippery slope?? Just what kind of downward slide do you think treating all adults equally under the law will lead to?

Mine as well.

If Jenner can be a girl/dude, and same sex marriage make sense, then I can love more than one woman and support them both and procreate without hiding it from Johnny Law.

I think that's a good question. And if those interested in doing it work as hard and for as long as the same-sex marriage proponents did, maybe it could happen. I'm pretty sure that the same-sex marriage proponents wouldn't fight it, if the rights of all involved were equally protected--certainly not anything like the polygamists in Salt Lake City fought same-sex marriage.

As long as they can afford to pay for their children, I say go for it.

I don't know why people care so much about what consenting adults do in their own bedrooms. Seems to me the fight for same sex marriage runs parallel with a fight for poly marriages.

Well first off, polyamory and polygamy are two totally different things.

Being polyamorous is not technically against the law. Just against the marriage agreement.

Being polygamous should be totally legal. As long as its freely agreed to by all adults.

The only caveat would be those being forced into it by religion.

Agreed, nothing to add to this.

I don't understand the focus on what consenting adults do, either.

I agree with every word.

Of course not. Once you take it upon yourself to redefine words then there is no bar to what those words might encompass.

Incestuous relationships soon to follow. And why not? They love each other and have 'rights' too.

Of course, I don't think PETA will ever be big enough to get Bestiality on the ballot, but who knows?

No reasons.

Some people will argue it should be against the law because some people abuse it.

And of course there're people like ish who think "marriage" has been redefined, obviously ignorant of the fact that polygamy is as old as mankind.

Is the cat over 16 (or whatever the age is in your state) and is it able to give recognizable, by anyone, consent?

BTW, polyandry and polygyny are types of polygamy.

I thought polyamory = 1 woman 2 men
and polygamy = 1 man 2 women.

Whoops.

polyandry?

I always get my polys mixed up.

I dont believe in separating the sexes when it comes to marrying more than one person. If we have to name it, keep it polygamy as that can stand for multi spouses.

It shouldn't matter which sex it is, if multiple consenting adults want to marry, I think they should be able to.

What peeves me is when people refer to marrying more than one spouse, it is assumed to be one male - multiple females.

Who's agreement?
I could be wrong, but I think adultery is illegal in some states, so it would be against the states marriage agreement.
It's not necessarily against the agreement of the people who are actually in the marriage or involved in the polyamorous relationship with one or more of the married people.
