James Horner - Composer - Dies in plane crash

Im sure it will

Will you say NICE things about me?

No!

I write shit!:(

I'll just link to some of your threads. Won't that be enough?

"busybody touched my life and I thought of him often. When I played Skyrim there was someone in Whiterun that was exhorting the crowd to worship Talos. I don't remember his name because I named him busybody and I was always happy to see him."

Pleasantly surprised to see a post in Horner's memory, a bit disappointed to see a lack of response.

Horner was a master. One of my three favorite film composers ( behind Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams ), his music never failed to move me in some way.

From the exciting energy of The Rocketeer to the sentiment of Field Of Dreams or the pulse pounding horror and thrills of Aliens, no matter what people would say about his lifts from classical composers or the recycling of his own material, he had a spot on dramatic sense that never failed.

I must have 80 or 90 Horner albums in my collection and have been listening to highlights the last few days.

With Goldsmith gone, Williams' output slowing, and now Horner taken, modern film music's greats are disappearing.

Here's one of my all time favorite Horner pieces.

Beautiful, beautiful oboe in there, thank you.

Listening to these Horner selections today. From:

The Land Before Time

Such incredible depth in differences of composition. I love Sondheim as a composer, mostly because of the difficulty of singing, but at a certain point most of his songs sound like others of his songs and they stand less on their own.

For each of these, completely different movies and concepts and theories, his composition reflected the tone of the story and his precision with his tools, not the inside of his own head.

Beautiful Mind, I can hear the random cacophony of thought that turns into a pattern.

Legends of the Fall I can hear the plains and sweeps of rivers and mountains.

Rocketeer I can hear all that fantasy speed and violence and striving.

Land Before Time I can hear a star leaf...and of course that obnoxious little triceratops because my daughter watched it far too often.

Hope I'm not derailing your thread too much. But talking about art and the cinema - I recently saw this video clip of Ethan Hawke (in remembrance of Robin Williams/Philip Seymour) that literally sent goosebumps down my spine.

And then also Ethan Hawke's documentary and then his talks with Seymour Bernstein (around art and creativity, the "hive experience")… .

Oh, not a derail at all. I love those guys too.

It is also a huge commentary on depression, which runs on my family. It doesn't have anything to do with how successful, loved or talented you are.

I had a look at the links provided, trying to pick up my favourite… But to be honest, they didn't appeal to me that much..
I suspect that they appeal to a certain type of audience aka more informed (I wish I were more educated in the area of music or that I knew how to play an instrument - I might perceive things in a # way)

--- PS : neither of you answered BB's question: "How will he let you know when he's dead?"

Music is my thing and orchestration is impressive.

I told BB he just needs to put it in his will to send me a PM
